I stand by the statement someone made that a) she'll be the MIL everyone hates and b) when her kids are old enough to be reproducing, she'll be "how *dare* you think I have to stay around?!?!? I sacrificed my LIFE to raise you--now it's all about me!!!"
Little Man (4 years old---holy cow) He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be. He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
::adds "call mom and dad to tell them to just jump off a roof now since they can't possibly be REAL grandparents from 15 hours away" to list of things to do today::
Leslie, make sure you tell them that if they had any sense, they'd realize that they have an obligation to be with their grandchildren and they should have picked up their lives and moved with you.
So true! So true. If they loved their grandchildren at all they wouldn't ever leave our sides, and would move across the country with us every few years. The nerve of them! Didn't they know that when my mom gave birth to me they signed themselves up for a lifetime of living 3 blocks away at all times? Where do I nominate them for worst grandparents EVAR!?

Don't forget to put your order in on which parent you would prefer to croak first. Heaven forbid your children are stuck with the "wrong" grandparent living so far away selfishly. I mean, how much worse could their situation get?

Well now I have some decisions to make. Too much work for a holiday. I'll let them know my preference on Monday.
Oh, and since I'm PW'ing in here anyway, in what alternate universe does it take 5 DAYS to get from Phoenix to Shreveport? Even with kids that require frequent stops, that drive could EASILY be done in 2 days, so I'm not understand her "Poor me, poor me, we couldn't possibly drive 2 1/2 days to meet halfway! They'll never see their grandmother again!" BS. Is she planning on driving through the Painted Desert, swinging down to Santa Fe, maybe taking a trip through Roswell, then going to Carlsbad, and hitting every other landmark that is even remotely anywhere between the two cities?

No, Balls, she will want to be around, but she will demand that they move their life around in order to be around her. God forbid, her children might want to move somewhere else. I hope she is prepared to move with them if she wants to be any sort of "real" grandparent.

By the "another kid won't make a difference financially since we have all the stuff but we definately can't afford plane tickets to visit" mentality, I'm guessing they drive mopeds that don't go over 35 with those little kid bike covered buggies attached? that could easily take 5 days travel time.

Leslie, don't forget to add in time for the anal probing while in Roswell.
Unfortunately, she'll have to remove some sticks, her head and the entire set of 1984 Encyclopedia Britannica to fit the probe in.

OH good lord, you know it's bad when you get the attention of a toddler! :-P
