Storing unfinished Formula ?

After reading the mircowave post I wanted to ask about reusing the unfinished bottle. I make DS 6oz at a time, typically he eats 4oz. I usually dump the rest but, can I reuse the rest? How long can it last in the fridge? 8pm to the next morning? just within a few hours?

Re: Storing unfinished Formula ?

  • If he has drank from the bottle, only an hour, I believe. It says on the can. If he hasn't touched it, 2 hours out of the fidge, 24 or 48 hours in the fridge.

  • I've always gone by the rule that if it sits out for an hour or more then it needs to be dumped.

DS drinks 8oz bottle.  sometimes at night he is too tired and he'll only drink an ounce so it goes straight to the fridge and I never keep them longer than 12 hours.

  • I go by- if it has been out for an hour- dump it. Otherwise I put it in the fridge and use it within 24 hours. I put them in the fridge whether she has drank out of the bottle or not.
  • This is what we do.  I'm sure I'll get flamed for it but neither child ever had any problems with it.  Granted - they didn't get formula until they were both past 6 months and had tougher tummies...

I make one bottle in the AM.  We use playtex drop ins.  When done I put that same bottle in the fridge with the left over.  I mix/add more to that same bottle to refill it for every single feeding for the rest of the day.

The bottle stays in the fridge all day when not feeding to prevent bacterial growth.

At the end of the day the bottle gets washed.  We start fresh the next day.

Each day I use only one liner and only 1 nipple.

Going to mommy hell?  perhaps!  But it works for us!
