Anyone go out to eat on Christmas Day?

This might be a totally weird question and I kind of feel totally weird asking.  Is there anyplace even open?

We always, as long as I can remember, have Christmas dinner at my parents house.  My parents recently moved to Florida for the winter, I'm really close with them so I'm a little sappy this holiday season because it's just weird and I miss them.  I will cook breakfast Christmas morning but would kind of rather prefer to eat dinner out if that is an option.

Anyone do this or am I the only one even thinking of it?

  • We flew on Christmas a few years back and the only thing open when we landed was IHop and Waffle House.  Gross huh?  We refer to that as the crappy Christmas where we ate Waffle House near the airport.  I would call nicer restaurants to see of they are open but I'm thinking you might have a hard time finding a good one.

  • There are a lot of Chinese restaurants open where I live on Christmas day.
  • Yes there are places that are open. Since we didn't have family to celebrate xmas with, DH and I have spent many Xmas' out.

I hope you have a wonderful xmas with your family. It doesn't matter where you are or what you do...you are together!

  • Yeah, I've heard Chinese places are usually open.  That's an option.  I also found 1 Italian restaurant that is somewhat in our area.  There seems to be a bunch of places in Boston but that is kind of far.

  • We did it when we lived in NYC.  It was awesome.

It kind of reads like you'll be sad though?  And just eating in a restaurant out of apathy?  That's depressing to me.  Christmas changes.  My parents are stuck in Ireland this year so no family for us this year.  I'm still excited about it.

  • My mom's b-day is Xmas Eve. We usually go out on Xmas Eve because she didn't want to have to cook when we were kids and it's sort of become a tradition now. We are going to a really nice restaurant and I am SOOOOO looking forward to it.

We are going to church, eating early and then putting the kids to bed as early as possible since there will be lots to do! I'm relieved because I'm cooking Xmas day both breakfast and dinner and I don't think I could have pulled off Xmas Eve too plus I'm really looking forward to eating the delicious/fancy food prepared and cleaned up by someone else!! And I know the place we are going to serves Xmas day too.

Just made me cry.  Thank you, I know you are right it is just becuase it's the 1st year, I'm just a sap.

  • Zenya, don't get me wrong, I am very excited for Christmas this year.  But yeah, I'm a little blah becuase I do miss them.  I know I'll get used to it, next year maybe we can start some new traditions!  This year has just been a year full of transition in many ways so I'd just rather go out to eat for dinner instead of having to worrry about what I am going to make for that too on top of everything else that has to be done.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone!  DH seems to be leaning towards Chinese.  We are going to have A Christmas Story kind of holiday!  LOL

  • Check out restaurants in hotels.  Living in Orlando I guess we have tons of places open due to all the tourists here, but hotel restaurants, especially the nice ones, will surely be open.

My DH has to work Christmas day (due to being in a high end place in a hotel) and my family is flying in that day.  I'm considering ordering Chinese or heading out too.  We are having out big Christmas meal on the 26th.

Ditto checking local hotels. The restaurants are usually open 365 days a year just like the rest of the hotel.
