A little concerned

2 weeks ago I had a strange vision problem while at work. Everything went blurry and I couldn't see clearly for at least 30 minutes. I thought it was a fluke, but informed a few co-workers and family members about my condition. It left me with a slight headache for a few hours. too.

Sunday the same thing happened again, and once again last night on my way home from work. Everybody I have told has informed me that the blurred vision is a sign of gestational diabetes and of preclampsia. I've got myself a bit freaked out for my diabetes test tomorrow. From what I have read online about preclampsia, it used to be called toxemia and it is genetic. My mother had toxemia when she was pregnant with me, so again, more things to make me worry.

Has anybody had anything similar happen?

Re: A little concerned

  • Don't know if it'll settle your nerves any or not... but my mom had preclampsia with all 3 of her kids. I was nervous about it and asked my doctor if it increased my risk. She said no.

I've also heard that dehydration can cause blurry vision...

  • I know nothing about pre-e, but you could be having migraines. Sometimes the vision is worse with them than the pain. My vision always goes when I start getting a migraine.

  • I've had migraines this entire pregnancy, and been put on a different prescription to deal with it. The headaches I get after the blurred vision, don't quite feel like a migraine. I can still function. It's such a weird feeling. I just hope I can get the answers I need tomorrow, and I hope it isn't anything crazy. Thanks for your input.

  • From what I've read, what you are describing CAN be an early indicator of preeclampsia. That doesn't mean it is, but I would definitely recommend that you go ahead and call your doctor and mention it, especially since it's happened more than once. If it's not (which it hopefully won't be), then you can have some peace of mind and address whatever the real issue is.

  • Vision problems and headaches can be a sign of Pre-E. Don't stress yourself out, as that won't help, but tell your doctor. They'll check you BP and test your urine. I hope everything turns out alright!

  • Thanks ladies. I hope after my appointment tomorrow I get the all clear. In no way can I afford to be home on bed rest right now.

  • I haven't had the headaches, but my vision is definitely blurred. I was concerned too but after all the tests, no gd or preclampsia. Sometimes pregnancy just does funny things to us I guess! Good luck, keep us posted!
