We really like the name Alicia (pronounced A-leesh-a).
However, there is some debate on how to spell it. I like the spelling for Alicia, but am afraid that some people will pronounce it A-lee-see-a, especially DH's Hispanic family. So while I can correct the in-laws, I'm worried that her name will constantly be mispronounced because she's growing up in a town that is 50/50 Hispanic.
So opinions, will most people pronounce it correctly? Would it bother you if they did? Should we change the spelling to Alisha?
Re: Alicia - Spelling?
If there is a heavy hispanic influence in your town, it will constantly be pronounced Alicia (A-lee-see-a), so if you really want to avoid it, change the spelling.
If you wouldn't have said anything about the Hispanic community, I would have said that Alicia would be fine.
But since you did, I would go with Alisha.
Either way, some people might still try to make it that A-lee-see-a pronunciation just because of the make up of the community.

I know a girl named Alicia (A-lee-see-uh)...so I think that pronunciation is pretty set with most people.
If you spell it Alisha some may pronounce it Uh-Lish-uh but my SIL's pronounces hers uh-lee-shuh. I always pronounced it incorrectly when I first met her. It would be more understandable to people with the /sh/ in there rather than the /c/.

My name is Alicia. It's pronounced A-leesh-a.
My mother's side of the family is Hispanic, but they've always pronounced my name correctly. I was named after my mother's mother and I believe she pronounced it A-lee-see-a, but my parents chose the American pronunciation for me.
I think that it's Alisha would be more likely to be mispronounced (A-lish-a).
I think you should stick with Alicia!
