Stool softener advice needed!

Ok so since DS recently started eating ONLY table food (no more purees at all), his stools are much harder and he's been having some trouble. He gets really frustrated, and grunts and tenses up, and sometimes even cries. What can I give him/feed him on a regular basis to help him?

  • This happened with DD too and her pedi said to give her more water (even with a little juice) and fruits. Also oatmeal, of course, has tons of fiber. We use the baby oatmeal mixed with apple juice.

  • Our GI Dr. recommended miralax daily (its not addictive) and it helped a lot.

  • DD has constipation issues so at her 15 month check-up we asked her Pedi what we could be doing.  He said to give her Miralax.  It's non-habit forming.  We started with 1 tsp then played around with it until we found the right amount for her. We settled at 1 1/2 tsp.  It works wonders!  GL

  • Our pedi wrote DD a prescription for miralax. We had to use it often when she first started with table food and whole milk, but not as much now. It works wonders. We put 2 to 3 teaspoons in her milk (that's all she would drink then) about twice a day. But we only did it until she had a bowel movement and then stopped b/c it can lead to lots of poppy diapers. For a few weeks we had to use it once every few days to keep her regular.
  • Thanks for all of the responses! Will definitely have to try out some of these suggestions.
