3rd Trimester

Cramping

I was diagnosed with irritiable uterus at 24 weeks. This past week I have been having more and more BH, but since yesterday evening I have been experiencing cramping on and off. The cramping is what I would describe as menstraul cramping, but a little more intense. Today it has only been happening when I am up and about and only happened a few times while I have been sitting on the couch. Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Is it just pregnancy discomfort? Should I call to be sure it is nothing to worry about?

 TIA

Re: Cramping

  • I am 33 weeks and I had cramping about 3 weeks ago.  The same type of feeling.  I call my doc right away because I thought this could be a sign of preterm labor. She agreed and had me come in right away to be checked.  Luckily I had not dilated at all so we caught it soon enough.  She told me several things to try, the easiest one and least invasive was to go home take a warm 30 min epsom salt bath and stay off my feet. If that didnt stop it with in 4 hours I had to go back to see her. Anyway I would recommend you call your doc, it is better to be safe.

  • Normally, I wouldn't worry too much about some cramping.  I've had some cramping off and on for the past week, but it's mostly at night and hasn't lasted for any significant duration.  However, since you were diagnosed with irritable uterus, I'd probably call my doc and see what he/she thinks about the cramping.  Better to ease your mind, right?

  • I had random cramping several weeks before I was due, but it wasn't that painful, and it was more of an ache that stuck around instead of coming and going like contractions.

When I actually did start labor, it was like bad menstrual cramps (and in my back, because I had back labor) and it would come and go with contractions.
