So the scan today showed a couple of spots on the heart. I can't remember what they are called but they only happen to about .5% of all the people they see. The spots can show signs of downs. I didn't do the quad screen before but the doc wanted us to have it done today because of the spots. Also Spud wasn't really cooperative and they couldn't get a good shot of the spine. We are going back in on the 29th to finish the scan. They are supposed to call me if the blood tests come back abnormal.
As of right now I'm staying optimistic. The heartbeat was 138 and they suspect but can't be sure that we are having a little girl. We'll hopefully know for sure in two weeks when we finish the scan.
If we have a baby with downs then we will be fine. Obviously we are hoping she doesn't have any problems but no matter what we are in love with this little girl and are excited to have her in our lives.
Re: Anatomy scan. Not all good news
((hugs)) I'm praying everything is ok.

I had the same thing on my anatomy scan. There was a bright white spot on the baby's heart. I believe it's called a echogenic focus. I've been told by several Drs now that it's really nothing to lose sleep over at this point The majority of the time it goes away by time the next ultrasound. If the rest of the heart and other anatomy looks normal, try not to worry about it. Even when you google it (cause I have), there are a lot of stories where it turned out to be nothing.
Good luck with your next ultrasound, but try not to worry about it.
Baby #2 on the way!
I'm so glad to see your positive outlook. Many people would want to get on here and vent about what happend, but you and your Husband are being really positive! I admire that a lot. I agree, no matter the situation your going to love your LO with all your heart!!
Great spirit, girl!!! I hope everything turns out okay!
I'm very sorry to hear about your questionable news. Hopefully by your next scan they will have some more answers for you. Way to be positive though! We didn't do a quad screen either and I 'm nervous for our scan.
I think your positive attitude is great, and I hope you can keep it up. It will help you alot.
I'll be thinking positive thoughts for you and your baby. Let us know how the BW goes.
Yes that's it! I just had rushing in my ears when he said there was an issue it didn't fully register what the name was. I was just concerned about what the prognosis was. Thanks! Now I can at least explain to my friends and family and call it by its name.

Keep up the great attitude! I hope you get better news at your next scan!
Congrats on it being a girl. Sorry to hear they found the spots, but I have a friend that had the same thing and she opted for the amnio and has a healthy baby.
I did the quad screening and my protein results came back high - I went through 4 weeks of an amnio and waiting for results and my baby is 100% healthy.
I hope everything's OK and that you find out out soon what's going on with your little spud
and hopefully they can confirm if it's a boy or girl, either way.
That baby is going to be soooo loved, no matter what, but I'm sure it would feel a LOT better knowing either way so you can prepare yourself. Keep us updated
For DS - we saw an echogenic focus too - AND dilated kidneys, which also ups the Downs risk. He is 100% healthy and perfect. I hear it's actually really really common - try not to worry too much about it.
My DD also had an EIF when I was pregnant the first time. It turned out to be nothing. Just know that it's only considered a "soft marker" for Downs, which means that it's not highly correlated... He said that the only reason they are seeing this more often now is because technology is so advanced and they see EVERYTHING.
Keep up your positive outlook and taking care of yourself. I know it's scary, but you are doing the right thing by staying positive.
Take care!!!
I wish you tons of t's & p's for the 29th. I hope it comes back ok and just using it as a precaution.
We have to go back too in 4 weeks because they couldn't get a good view of the 4 chambers of the heart. I'm nervous but staying optimistic also. That's the best thing you can do.
We're here for you though! :-)
I am sorry you are going through this.
Is it called calcification spots? They saw that with my first, went back in two weeks and all was fine. My OB told me that was that uncommon. Hope yours is the same.
Hang in there.
DS who is perfect and age four now had these same spots in his heart. They called them interventricular foci at that point. We had a fetal echo and they still saw it. Told me it was a "soft marker" for downs. So i was worried sick for 20wks and he is just fine.
now with the second child they told me that these spots arent even conisdered important now. My OB said that the US equiptment is very sensative now and that these incidentals are more common than they used to be.
i know you are going to be worried, Just keep thinking positive.
I have been there--keep your chin up!
