I posted on 3rd tri and the Jan. 2011 board that Jackson was born yesterday at 7:52 a.m. via c-section. We finally made it to our goal date to 34 weeks gestation. He weighed 4 lb 1 oz and was 17 in. long. He was definitely a screamer. He's in the NICU right now and has a pneumothorax so he's on a cpap machine. Said last night that he's at 26% and sometimes they have to raise it to 85% and he gets cranky. Luckily, the pneumothorax decreased a little since yesterday morning so it's putting less stress on his lung and breathing. He's definitely a fighter and I'm very proud of him.
Anyone else deal with pneumothrax's before?
Re: Miracle baby finally here
Welcome and congrats!
Andrew was a 26-weeker. He did have a pneumothorax, scared the *** out of me. He was on a high-frequency ventillator (an oscillator) during that time. He was ventillated all-in-all for about a month, then cpap for a while and then the canula, and eventually came home without oxygen!
He's had no lung troubles to date!
T&P to your little guy!
That's great! It freaked me out at first but x-rays were showing that it's going away so that's good. But since it's going away his lungs are having trouble still so he's back on the cpap for now. I'm worried about it along with a murmur they found. They said the murmur is normal with preemies but they're watching it b/c I'm diabetic and those are common in those babies too. I'm just so happy he's here and we made it 11 weeks in the hospital, just is getting tougher to see him in the nicu
I think, from what I understand, if they catch the pneumothorax early enough, the kids generally recover fairly quickly! That doesn't make it any less scary. It's great that he's on CPAP and hope that he heals and recovers soon!
Sorry I don't know anything about murmurs!
Congrats!
Did they say the murmur was a PDA? I forget what PDA actually stands for but DD had this as well. It is very common and can often be resolved with medication. DD's was gone in 3 days with the meds.
They did say it was his PDA! Well, that was their best guess anyway and said it was normal. They just have to keep an eye on it because of my diabetes since he runs a risk of having heart issues. It's not effecting him at all or causing any distress which is why they think it's his pda
