Two Under 2

Speaking of sending #1 to daycare...

How soon before DS#2 gets here should I try to get DS#1 in daycare?  I'm planning on doing 3 days a week 9-3 and then when I go back to work from maternity leave, it will be full time.  We're planning a month before DS#2 is due (I went overdue with DS#1 and don't expect to have DS#2 early but I know you never know...).  Do you think that's enough time?
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!

  • Depending on how your LO takes to changes that could be fine.  My oldest takes a lot of time to get used to new things, and when baby #2 came into the picture I tried my best to keep his routine the same.  I would have put him in DC about 3 months prior to baby, but that is strictly because he needs the adjustment time before something new comes up.  If your LO is easy with changes one month might be great for them, GL!

  • I would think 6 weeks to a month before is good. A month is a long time in the life of a child that young. Good luck!!
  • It took Henry about six weeks to fully adjust to MDO. It might've been quicker if he'd been in full-time day care.

When I say adjust, I mean it took him that long to stop crying when I dropped him off, start eating and napping well there, etc.

That was what I was thinking.  He just turned a year old so thinking a month in his life is a long time right now.  Thanks for the reassurance of that!

  • Thanks all.  He's pretty laid back so I'm hoping it's not too hard of a transition for him.  :(
