My grandmother made a beautiful handmade quilt for DD and its getting colder and my mom told me to use it, that my grandmother would agree. Before the flames happen I had a nurse visit and showed me a safe way to use blankets as we were told not to swaddle and DD is on our room. So do I keep it as a keep sake or let her get use out of it?
Re: Would you use a handmade quilt?
Of course I would use it!
We had an awesome quilt made for DS3, we use it for tummy time, to put over him in the car seat and he even had NB pics done with it.
ditto! We use blankets in all these ways - you don't necessarily have to use it for sleeping. But hey, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for your LO to sleep on top of it for a nap (floor, pack n play, bed - wherever) either.

Definitely use it! We were gifted a gorgeous handmade quilt and were told very firmly to use it. I use it for tummy time.
It doesn't go with her nursery in the slightest, but that doesn't matter. She'll be able to use it more as a blanket when she's a little older.
We also have a handmade afghan I haven't really used yet, although it's on the back of the glider.
