Would you use a handmade quilt?

My grandmother made a beautiful handmade quilt for DD and its getting colder and my mom told me to use it, that my grandmother would agree. Before the flames happen I had a nurse visit and showed me a safe way to use blankets as we were told not to swaddle and DD is on our room. So do I keep it as a keep sake or let her get use out of it?

Re: Would you use a handmade quilt?

  • Of course I would use it!

We had an awesome quilt made for DS3, we use it for tummy time, to put over him in the car seat and he even had NB pics done with it.

  • Use it. We use a handmade crocheted afghan and DD loves cuddling in.

ditto!  We use blankets in all these ways - you don't necessarily have to use it for sleeping.  But hey, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for your LO to sleep on top of it for a nap (floor, pack n play, bed - wherever) either.

  • I handmade quilts for DS and I use them all....hand-stitched and everything. My grandmother crotcheted afghans and I use them too. Best part of handmade things is they get softer and better over time. If you are worried wash them by themselves on cold, gentle cycle and dry on low or air dry.

  • I would totally use it. It adds character to it which IMO adds even more sentimental value!

  • Thanks for the advice my Grandmother makes a quilt for everyone all hand stiched spends 50-100 hours per quilt. Its a labor of love.
  • Im sorry but why is there any question on whether or not you would use it?
  • Use it, that's what it's made for.  Think of it as wrapping your daughter up in love.  :)  I always get warm tinglies when I find out that people are actually using the things that I made them.
  • Definitely use it! We were gifted a gorgeous handmade quilt and were told very firmly to use it. I use it for tummy time.

It doesn't go with her nursery in the slightest, but  that doesn't matter. She'll be able to use it more as a blanket when she's a little older.

We also have a handmade afghan I haven't really used yet, although it's on the back of the glider.
