How do you handle...

This is just out of curiosity; here's the scenario:

You have two children. Play between them gets a little too rough, and one smacks the other, with the intention of hurting them (this is not the first time this has happened). You (verbally) reprimand the hitter, and he/she begins to cry. Do you comfort them? Let them cry it out? Handle it another way?

I personally don't comfort tears brought on by reasonable admonishment, but I know others do. What about you?

Re: How do you handle...

  • DS and DD do this all the time.  If the hitter starts crying I don't comfort them.  I give them time out in their room and then have them apologize.
  • I'm with you.

I comfort a child who is crying out of pain, has been hurt, etc. I don't have sympathy for kids who cry just because they got scolded. When ds pulls that crap he gets sent to his room until he can stop crying. I'm a mean mom like that, lol.

  • Loading the player...
  • If they are crying when they were scolded (which DS does all. the. time.), they get sent to their room. He is a drama llama, and I don't tolerate hurting others.
