Re: what weeks are the critical time in development for the fetus?

  • All the major organs develop until 10 weeks.
  • Loading the player...
  • pretty much the entire first trimester but the first 10 weeks are when the major organs develop.  I think my doc told me last pregnancy that weeks 6-8 are when most of it happens.

This, its pretty amazing the difference between a baby at 6 weeks and at 12weeks. I got to see this with my last pg.

    BFP #1 10/28/09 EDD 06/24/10- Miscarriage 11/2/09
    BFP #2 11/30/09 EDD 08/12/10- Sophia Grace born 8/1/10
    BFP #3 11/16/10 EDD 08/04/11- Samuel Richard born 7/28/11
    BFP #4 01/04/12 EDD 09/19/12- Simon Nathaniel born 9/6/12
    BFP #5 03/27/13 EDD 11/25/13- Savannah Lee born 11/18/13
  • Even 6 weeks to 8 weeks. I got to see this at my last u/s, because mine are 2 weeks apart. The younger one looked kind of like a shrimp (to me, at least), and the older one had arms and legs and a definite human shape. It was so weird and amazing all at once! I can't wait for my next u/s tomorrow! =]
  • Wait your twins are two weeks apart?  that's AWESOME!!!!!  How does that affect your delivery?

Well since it's kinda impossible to conceive two babies two weeks apart, then yes....

I'm not buying it.  You use "younger" and "older" when referencing something alive, not when referencing an ultrasound.  She was definitely talking about the babies.

Well it reads like she meant that.  and it's not kinda impossible.  It is rare, but possible.  Not that I in any way mean to imply that it is the case with her.

It's not technically impossible.  Women have conceived babies by different fathers and carried them at the same time.  You can ovulate more than once in a month and some women even ovulate while pregnant.

Yes, it's rare, but not impossible.

  • Also, maybe she means that the babies are measuring at different weeks.  I know that twins that are conceived at the same time can measure differently.  Perhaps one twin is just two weeks behind in size.

This. Mine never measured the same day. One would measure 6w3d and the other would measure 6w6d or something like that. But two weeks is a fairly big discrepancy.

I agree it's a big discrepancy, but it's completely possible.

  • A two week discrepancy would be HUGELY concerning.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but it wouldn't be so huge if one baby were measuring 6w6d and the other were 8w1d.  She never said exact dating.

But it's still a stretch.  I'm really curious to hear what the real story is.
