December 2010 Moms

I think the baby is dropping?

Does dropping happen all at once or gradually? Over the past few days I've felt like the baby is lower. One symptom is that there is pressure on my pelvis that actually hurts quite a bit (here and there...not all of the time.) And there is less rib action (but the baby is not totally out of the ribs). And I have to pee a little more. But it's not a dramatic change, so I'm not sure that the baby has definitely dropped. Also, the fact I'm drinking more for my cold might have to do with my peeing.

Anyone else drop? What was it like? Quick or gradual? Obvious or not so much? Anyone know the average time from dropping to delivery for first-time moms? I checked the internet and there were so many different kinds of estimates. Just curious about what you've heard.

Oh and yesterday I snissed for the first time. haha. I didn't care, though, because I was wearing a pantiliner as I have been every day for the past few months.

  • I also feel like my baby is gradually dropping.  I think it is pretty normal.

  • I dropped right around 35 weeks.  It wasn't all of the sudden but become obvious over maybe 36 hours.  I felt a LOT more pressure much lower.  My baby was pretty low to begin with so not as obvious as others I don't think but enough so that I got a lot of comments on it.

  • Sounds like you dropped to me. It wasn't blatantly obvious when it happened for me last weekend on Saturday. My boobs didn't seem to sit on my belly as much as before but it wasn't super obvious. I opened the door for the dog that morning and peed on myself a little for who knows what reason and I hadn't before. (Since then I snissed once or twice.) I still feel the baby high up too but the more obvious sign is that beginning that weekend I feel him really low. Like his hands are around the area where my pelvis meets my upper thigh. I don't feel like I need the bathroom more often but there's something about his new position that a nerve running down my left leg hurts like crazy occasionally. Doctor confirmed on Monday that baby had gone very far down. Doctor said it doesn't matter when the baby Drops but I did read it's two weeks before for firs time moms. (He dropped exactly two weeks before my due date and my mom and sister happen to have delivered their firsts on their exact due dates but we'll see.)
  • Mine was a little more gradual. It started out just being uncomfortable, but now it's actual kind of painful and I've definitely got more of the waddle action going on.

  • It was gradual for me.  I thought he might have dropped two weekends ago, but wasn't quite sure until he got the hiccups one morning.  I felt them in a totally different spot.  He's still up in my ribs, but he hasn't actually been kicking as much.

  • Other people started to notice more than I did. I hadn't seen my family for a couple of weeks and on Thanksgiving my Mom told me I def dropped since she had seen me last. I can really tell now b/c I can no longer sit indian style - the pressure is unbearable!

And I felt her hiccups in a much lower spot as well

Yep, me too. This past week I've only been feeling it when I'm standing up, but last night I woke up a couple of times because I was feeling some major pelvic pressure.

  • It's funny that you posted this.  My last appt. Lily was still breech, so DH and I have been praying that she'd turn soon.  So last night, Lily was crazy! Twisting, turning, moving.  Every time she did this, I would feel sharp pains in my lower back.  This happened for about 2 hours, then I think she needed a nap.  DH and I are convinced she turned and dropped because today I feel the pressure so much more on my pelvis bones etc. and when I have to go pee, I have to goo immediately or it hurts!

  • I was told about 2 weeks ago that I dropped. Everyone tells me that they are predicting within the next week or so I'll be in labor. I've had the same pressure in my pelvic area. My doctor told me that the head is way down and the baby is basically in position.
