Sooo, I have my 38w appt in the morning at 10am and I am having my first internal, which I a happy about because I have been soooo uncomfortable and I"m hoping it kick starts something.
Now I just had a question about membrane sweeping/stripping, would you recommend this or no? I'm not even sure if my OB does this, but if I am dilated at all, I want to do whatever I can to try to get things moving if possible. Those that have had a membrane sweep either in a previous pregnancy or in the current one, what was your experience?
Thank you
Re: Dr Appt in the AM and a ?
I have been having internal checks since 36 weeks and they've never offered up a membrane sweep (and I'm not dilated yet). Frankly the pain from the cervical check is enough to make me grab the side of the "bed" and pray to God. I don't know that I'd ask for a membrane sweep until I got closer to my due date or went over (like I knew they were going to induce me for sure.
Zilly is having this done tomorrow so maybe she can chime in (poor thing is at 41 weeks).
Thank you xo, I'm going to just go with the internal and see how that goes, if things don't progress as my due date gets closer I will discuss with my OB what my options are aside from being induced. I hate to complain, but I have honestly never been so uncomfortable.
Poor Zilly, I hope the sweep does something for her.
thanks ladies, I"m going to ask about it, and maybe consider it at my next appointment if I haven't made any progress.
I"m off to bed now, I will update tomorrow! night!!

I just got back from having this done. It wasn't the most painful thing I ever had done, but it certainly wasn't pleasant by any means. Given that you just about 38w, if I was in your position I'd ask your doctor to see what their standard is on this, but maybe hold off on having it done until 39 or 40w. You technically still have plenty of time to dilate. I didn't open to 1cm until my 40w appointment. Granted I am having the longest pregnancy ever, but a lot can change in a few days!
p.s. - be prepared to have some spotting if you do have it done.
