How effective are condoms

Just curious, because I have heard all kinds of things.  I'm on the pill to but I did a Sunday start, because I haven'y had a period yet.  I have been having cravings, hot flashes, cramping, and I'm hungry all the time, not to mention discharge (sry TMI).  I'm thinking I'm just paranoid about it though.

  • About 97%, if you use them correctly.

  • I think they're 85%.  Are you worried you're PG?  If you just started the pill on this past Sun, that can easily explain your symptoms.

  • Also, you only started having sex again a week ago, right? It is unlikely you are pregnant, or that you are having symptoms of pregnancy a week later. It's probably the pill.

Condoms, when used correctly, are 99% effective.

I started it a week ago, but my Dr. said its not effective the first month.  I have just heard of horror stories about condoms.

Awesome, I'm just worried because I can't get pregnant right now.

i used condoms for 10 yrs because i can't take the pill. never got pregnant. i got my positive pregnancy test oe month after stopping.

I've never heard of condoms not being effective unless they break. i think most horror stories about condoms are products of abstinence propaganda, not medical fact.

  • I am BF so my OB was going to put me on the mini-pill and told me it was 85-90% effective.  I told her I didn't like the odds so we'll just go with condoms since they're better.  She said that condoms are also only 85-90% effective, so we do both...definately do not want another one right now.
