A WWYD/WDYT of sorts

Our next door neighbor was pregnant.  She was due on the 11th.  I have a gift for them, but here's the thing.  We have not seen or heard anything from them all week.  No cars for family members or friends.  No bows or flowers or anything indicating that they're home with the baby.  I checked the hospital website to see when the baby was born, but they aren't on that.  So, of course, I'm thinking OMG what if something awful happened?  M saw the husband carrying groceries in the other day, but that's been it.  All the blinds are drawn in the house.  It's just odd.

WWYD?  Would you go over with the gift?  Or would you wait a few days to see if there is any sign of baby-related activity?

(We're friends with them, but don't get to hang out very much because our schedules are so hectic.)

Re: A WWYD/WDYT of sorts

  • Can you call and just see how they're doing? Then, if they've had the baby, you could see if you could bring your gift by.

  • Call- see how they are doing and if they need anything.

Then hurry back here with a report, mkay?

  • Damn it!

Can you just get M to go over and ask her H how's things are?

  • Nope, not listed.  GAH.  I'm just going to have to send M over there to investigate.

  • Is it her first? Maybe she hasn't had the baby yet? I was 11 days overdue with DD1.
  • hey bubbly!

coming from someone that has had two very late losses, I would find out how your neighbor and baby are doing before you go over with a gift. Maybe just go over to say hi.

  • I would definitely get the scoop before showing up with a gift.  How to get said scoop, I'm not sure.  I'd feel funny just knocking on the door.  It seems like even if it wasn't happy news, there would still be some family or friends about-right?  weird.

This is what I was thinking.  Even if they did have a loss, you'd think that their family would be by at least.

  • Since it's the holidays it wouldn't be weird to knock on their door with some pumpkin bread or cookies or pie.  I wouldn't show up with a baby gift yet.  Hopefully everything is fine and she's just in fussy newborn sleep deprivation hell and hasn't been up for a lot of visitors.
  • some people are weird about advertising a newborn. I put balloons and a sign on my old nieghbors lawn and she took it in minutes after.  She said she didn't want to broadcast it to strangers...something about criminals and stuff. As for visitors, after I had both my kids I asked for no visitors for a few days so we could figure things out with a baby in the house.  Maybe that's what they're doing. I'd wait to see some activity, but I'm sure everything is ok.
