LGH and Doctors??

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts/opinions positive or negative on delivering at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge? I have always gone there for other reasons, so I figured I would just deliver there. Also, anyone have any thoughts on Dr. Ann LaBarge? She's part of Midwest Center For Women's Healthcare. I've gone to her for a few years just for my yearly exams and that was fine, but now I'm going to be working a lot closer with her. I'm only 8 1/2 weeks along and if I'm going to switch OB's, I would like to do it soon. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Re: LGH and Doctors??

  • I had several while I was there-

Primarily went to Dr. Susan Schy for my check ups and everything. She was really friendly, however was very quick every time. Didn't spend a lot of time with me- but i know if I would have asked questions she would have answered. VERY friendly and enthusiastic- I felt very comfortable with her.

I saw Dr. Ian Jasenoff (sp?) once because Dr. Schy had a death in her family and he was great, too! Not sure if you're comfortable with a male Dr. but I really liked him. I never considered having a male, but i would see him again given the chance. Very gentle and nice.

Dr. Hahn delivered my daughter via c-section and I LOVED her. She followed up with me several times also and I felt most comfortable around her than all three. I think it really depends on YOU and the kind of provider you're looking for, but I would definitely recommend all three of mine, mostly Dr. Hahn. She speaks in plain English (not medical terms) and is very thorough and has a great bedside manner. My incision is great and I healed super fast.

  • Im 36 1/2 weeks now and I will deliver at LGH this December. I myself trust the hospital and my little brother was born there so it is comfortable and familiar. As far as OB's go my usual doctor is Matthew Nash and he is such a great guy. I actually have also seen Dr. Jasenof as well and I really DONT like him. He answered his cell phone in the middle of my appointment while he was in the midst of a pelvic exam! Totally gross and unacceptable. But really Dr. Nash has an office at Parkside (which is the doctors office on the side of the hospital) and he also visits Advocate Medical in Buffalo Grove and I would highly recommend him. Hope this helps! Big Smile
  • Dr. Matthew Nash delivered my daughter.  He is my regular OB and he happened to be on call the day my daughter came.  I really liked him in the office, but when it came time to push he seemed to be annoyed with me. I had a hard time pushing, and he was was telling me to push harder and try harder.  I was trying my hardest, but he didn't seem to care. Also, he seemed rushed and like I was wasting his time. When he came into the room he told me how many babies he has done today (I don't care, I care about my experience) I was talking to my husband about it later.  He said that Dr. Nash seemed nervous that she was stuck for a long time.  I think next time I am going to try Lake Forest.

  • I've delivered 2 babies at Lutheran and it's been a great experience. I was seeing a gynecologist at parkside for years so when I got pregnant it was a no brainer. I go to Associates in OBGYN. Dr. Weber delivered my DD and Dr. Carson delivered my DS. They added 2 docs last year who are really, really great-Dr. Patsavas and Dr. Chen. I plan on having one more baby and wouldn't ever think of switching. I've also had great nurses, and they just built a new maternity ward last year with all private rooms.

  • Forgot to add that it's an all female practice, which is important to me! I know it doesn't matter as much to some!

  • I am delivering at LGH and my doctor is Dr. Grabner of the Midwest Center for Women's in P.R. I have seen doctor La Barge, and i think she is great she takes the time to hear you out and offer her professional opinion.  This is my second child being delivered there.  My olderst is 8 years old so i just recently went back to do the maternity tour for the new maternity tower that was recently constructed last year.   And was very impressed.  My pediatrician is also at the Children's paviliion which is convenient.  I am delivering at LGH. Hope this helps, Good Luck!
  • Did you end up staying with Dr. LaBarge?  I'm looking for a doctor with Lutheran and her offices are really close to my house.
  • I have been going to my doctor (Dr. Merkin) in the Parkside center at Lutheran General for years and she is my favorite. Very knowledgeable and will answer any questions without being condescending. Her partner is a man (Dr. Schwartz) and I never thought I would be comfortable with a male OB/GYN but he is very nice and I feel very comfortable with him. There are only 2 doctors in their practice so I don't have to worry about having a doctor I don't like on-call when I deliver. They work out of LGH or Resurrection. All of my immediate family was born at LGH, but not in the new tower.
