Combination Carseats?

Hi,

I know this has been asked before. I am looking for a combination careseat for DS for my MIL. I have been looking at the GracoNautilus, Evenflo Maestro & generation 65. Can someone help me? We have the Britax Frontier  85 which I love! However, we are looking for something more economical for my MIL. DS does go with her at least once or twice a week and she has always had her own carseat. She is willing to get whatever I suggest.

Re: Combination Carseats?

  • Most people on here will recommend the Nautilus - I have two and really don't have any complaints.

  • I got a sunshine kids Radian 65, which should keep DS until he is 7 according to the weight chart on the CDC.gov site.  Goes to 53" and 65 pounds, which even at 90% for height and weight, gets DS to 7.

It was $145.00 with 20% off from www.Babycarseats.com with CARSEAT20.  Some people were able to layer in other coupon codes GET10PCT or coupon15, but it didn't work for me.

It works on any radian, so if you wanted the more expensive ones, you could use it on those too.

My son is almost 2, so doesn't need any of the infant inserts or anything and I don't like the "wings" by the kids head.

  • I'd go with the maestro. The nautilus is not a sure bet as a booster, and according to things I've read, the maestro has a better chance of fitting your kid as a booster than the nautilus does. Any of those 3 may not fit your child as a booster when the time comes, though, so make sure you are aware you may have to buy a dedicated booster down the road.

That's why I suggest the maestro these days. It's a lot cheaper, so it makes more sense for a second car, considering you may have to buy another seat in a couple of years.

  • I did not consider the maestro because of this.

I don't even think you should be able to buy one right now.

  • Joe, they're for sale still. Recalled seats had a fix kit available. Evenflo recalled without any injury reports--that's huge for the company, as they usually wait until their have been deaths. I've not seen any techs saying they're uncomfortable recommending the seat, and they certainly don't keep quiet about those kinds of things if they feel that way! Most are still using the seats themselves.
  • Thanks everyone. I was leaning toward the Marstro because it is lighter weight which will make it easier on my MIL. I saw that info about the recall. Do you think that they are still selling the recall ones in the store?
