If you make homemade banana for baby...

Daycare requires all food to be ready to serve. I'd like to make her mashed bananas but even when I mash and freeze, they brown. Are they still safe to serve? TIA!

  • I would say so (I don't make baby food yet but am planning on it) I belive they turn brown because of oxidation and are fine to eat. The same thing happens with avocados and apples. (i could be wrong)

That's exactly what I thought. Thanks!

  • If you mash it in the morning and put it in an air tight container they probably won't brown. I don't think it would take that long to do in the morning before you go.

  • Maddox hated fresh bananas mashed up.  He seems to prefer the watered down Gerber ones....weirdo. LOL

ETA: I meant my kid is the weirdo.

Lol! Love the little puppy dog! It must be Carter's because it looks a lot like Aubrey's cow costume (there's pics in my mobile uploads on FB). She loves bananas but then again my hoss cat has loved pretty much everything. LOL

I think I may try want PP said and mash in the morning. Hope it works!

  • I dont' think your suppose to freeze real bananas.. I have a baby making cook book, and real bananas are suppose to be given fresh at all times.. but you can't send a banana to the day care and have them mash it before they give it to er? UIt's not that hard to do lol..

And you can keep them as well.. Like I only give my LO 1tsp a day, and i just wrap the open end of the nana in plastic wrap and place in a ziploc baggy and put it in the fridge and it's still GOOD.. and only the end is brown but i just cut it off..
