Cervical pain- Update

I work up this morning with sharp pain in my cervix. No spotting or cramping but just sharp pains. I googled and scared myself to death as everything came up with Incompetent Cervix. Have any experienced moms had this issue at 14--15 weeks and been fine?

My ticker is off, I'm 15 weeks tomorrow.

*** Had my appointment yesterday all is fine with baby. Turns out I have an ovarian cyst. So nothing major after all and a big warning to never Google! ;)

Re: Cervical pain- Update

  • Step away from Dr. Google, first off.

    Is it a constant pain?

With no bleeding or cramping, I probably wouldn't think anything of it TBH. If you're concerned, put in a call to your OB.

  • I've had pains like this and it was just gas. I would drink or eat something that normally gets you moving and see if that does the trick.
  • Possibly round ligament pain? I know that normally it happens in the muscle area, however, over the weekend I felt like I had an ovarian cyst. It hurt so bad. I had an appointment yesterday and the doctor said that it's round ligament pain. She said that during this time in the pregnancy there are going to be A LOT of stretching, pulling, and weird pains in the second tri-mester. I think you'll be ok, but if you're concerned, you can always contact your doctor. :)

  • Umm I experienced that kind of a pain too.. But it was not a constant pain so I just put it aside and didn't worry much. But if you are concerned call your doctor. And I second OP, step away from Dr. Google. It's just going to freak you out for no reason.
  • I have cervical incompetence, it is characterized by painless dilation. What you are feeling is most likely round ligament pain. If you are concerned don't hesitate to call your doctor's office and ask to be seen.
  • I have had shooting pains in my cervix too. It is not constant, but has happened a couple times. I am 14 weeks.
  • Are you positive you are not feeling this in your pelvic bones? I've had pains in my pelvic bones and when it strikes in the front it could sort of seem like the cervix. This is totally normal and a good sign of your baby growing and pelvis and other parts stretching out in preparation. I actually found that getting adjusted at the chiropractor seems to help a lot though, to at least keep my tail bone and pelvis aligned to reduce the painful tinges as the ligaments stretch and move. I would start there and take nice warm baths.

The next time you feel the pains, I would rub your pelvic bone gently and see if that is the location. The bottom of your pelvis will be behind your public area right at the top of your labia. Sorry for TMI but many people don't know for some reason or another. Or insert and touch your cervix to see if it truly is the cervix. No reason to be worried about this, many of us checked cervical position daily when practicing natural family planning. Feel the surface of the cervix and position. It should be high, and closed tightly to feel like the end of your nose. If it really is your cervix, just make a call to your doctor or midwife. This is likely nothing to worry about but you can save yourself a lot of stress and possibly even prevent something from going wrong if you just go get it checked out. I bet it is not any issue at all!

  • I have had some similar pains in my prior pregnancy towards the end. I was surprised it occurred again to me so early. I always say it feels like I rode a horse for a long time (never rode, hypothesiszing). Doctor told me it was stretching, obviously don't take my word as gospel  ;)
  • I've had it and my doctor said it was normal and would get even worse... Many ladies on the boards sometimes refer to it as "lightening crotch"
