Appliance help!

Ok so this is a little odd to be asking on here Im guessing a lot of you may be able to help me. here is the story:

My husband and I don't have any family so it will be the only 2 of us taking care of our toddler and the twins when they are here and the only help we will get if from a new "dishwasher" I am saving to buy. Problem is, I do not know ANYTHING about what to look for when buying a good dishwasher, as far as brand, cycles, temperature buttons, what do I look for exactly to ensure that we are buying a good washer. I don't plan to spend no more then $300 on one, $350 TOPS! Can you guys reccommend me a good one? For those that owns one, do you like yours, does it clean really well or does it have to do with the type of detergent you buy? I know by owning one it will be a little easier on the both of us and we won't have to struggle that bad!

Re: Appliance help!

  • We bought ours last year and we love it.  It's a Frigidaire, not a popular brand but for the price we got it at and all the features it has, we're happy.  Just make sure yours comes with a food disposer (SP?) and that there is a spray wash for the top rack as well, most of the cheaper ones only have a sprayer for the bottom rack.

Oh and BTW - we got ours at Brandsmart (I see you're in Miami), they were the cheapest place we found and I do my homework.

  • yes, you will want one!

make sure it has a "lock" feature that you can press/hold a button to lock all the other buttons- b/c otherwise you will have toddlers who turn it on constantly.

a stainless interior is way better than plastic - helps reduce noise and also keeps smells at bay.

  • We have a Whirlpool that SUCKS.  It's builder grade, lowest possible, NO features.  I would recommend one that has buttons on the top (instead of front) for a sleeker look.  I would also suggest having the silverwear on the door instead of sitting on the roll out tray (much more room IMO).  I would love if ours had a sanitize option.  As far as dish detergent, I know 100% that Target brand is the same as Cascade (DH was actually at the plant where both are made, so save a few cents there).  GL.
  • Busybea, Goldie and Aussie thank you so much for these must have features, I already put it under my notes on my phone. And busybea you'd be surprised how popular frigidares are. I'm constantly watching HGTV and the shows kitchen remodeling, the ones that people spend like $100k on their kitchen alone lol alot of them use frigidare believe it or not! :-P Its also funny you mentioned Brandsmart cause I was looking at a frigidare one from there, online and it wasnt that expensive at all. Every state should have a Brandsmart, its a big warehouse with all name brand appliances for pretty much half the price all other department stores sell them for! I LOVE it! :)
