  • Aw, poor little guy.

Have you checked offbeat places like the laundry hamper or the closet?

Have you checked offbeat places like the laundry hamper or the closet?

Fridge, cabinets, coat/scarves/shoe/glove box, entertainment center, moved all of the furniture down stairs, emptied clothes baskets, toy boxes, empty boxes waiting to be packed, pantry, vases, purses, behind the desk, bathroom vanity, behind the toilet, trash cans (I'm out of trashbags, and have been using walmart bags, so this hasn't been a big task, LOL!), quilt rack, showers, towel closet, EVERYWHERE>

No dice.  Seriously, and I have done some serious cleaning this weekend,

  • Poor Toby (and L!) - the Toby updates are making me smile, though :)

Good call Lari on offbeat places - current favorite places in this house are inside shoes, the dryer, laundry hamper, back corner of my closet, the pantry or other random-seldom-used cupboard ...charming!

You poor thing!!!! :(   Seriously, Toby - come out of hiding!!!!! :)

  • Outside somewhere?

Coat pockets -- I say this because I thought I lost my debit and Sam's Club cards this weekend and they were in the pocket of my rarely worn coat.

What does he say he did with it? I find that asking over and over sometimes triggers the right response with DS.

  • Behind his bed? Wrapped in blankets? Your purse?
  • I feel like asking you how the night went after you guys came home. That's when it got lost, right? The same night you bought it? Did he have it when he went to bed?

Nope!  He didn't even go upstairs after we bought it, so it isn't in bed.  He lost it before we went to bed. I was making supper, while my friend Chelsea was playing with him.  All of us hunted. And hunted.  And hunted.

I have interrogated the child, but he can't come up with an answer other than "MOOOM.  He has WHEELS.  He LEFT.  He didn't like OUR HOUSE!!"   :::Groan:::

Nope, coats haven't came out yet.

  • Is it possible that it went in the trash that night? Maybe he felt really badly about the whole thing that he thought he was doing you a favor by getting rid of it?
  • Nope.  My trashbags are walmart bags, because I am too lazy to go to walmart to get actual trashbags.

    Keep giving me ideas though!

He does keep telling me that "Toby was expensive."  And that makes me sad because that is what I kept telling him :(

You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
  • Nope.  Not outside!  We didn't go outside.  If he did happen to open the doors, then it would be within throwing distance of the door (LOL!), which he is not.

::::shakes fist at Toby::::: Damn you, toby, damn you for taking this much of my precious time and energy!

  • DS lost one of his trains once and I found it ages later behind some books on a bookshelf. He had been playing with the train on top of the books, and then it fell behind....that's the only other idea I have. DS makes EVERYTHING into "tracks" for his Thomas trains, so think of what is at his level that could be made into tracks and look there.

  • Did you ask your friend? Maybe he put him in her purse so he would leave.

  • I have often found Thomas in our folded towels in the bathroom closet. My Lo one always says "Theres Thomas, hes not sweepin(sleeping) anymore" LOL
  • OK, so let's get the timeline straight here.

You threw it in your cart and bought it.

When did he get it? At home or in the car?

If it made it out of the car, where was he playing with it? I think the bookshelf idea is a good one-- I found DS flashlight behind books the other day.

Are you 100% positive that it didn't go upstairs?

Have you recently sealed up any moving boxes that he could have sneaked into?

Do you live in an older house with radiators? I used to find all kinds of crap back there when I had them.

I've looked in all the closets.  L can't even reach the bathroom closet upstairs.

    Gah!  These ideas are great.

Devon, I just went to look behind the TV stand.  Nope!

  • These are obvious places but couch cushions and sides of a chair?

Did he happen to over hear you talking to anyone about what happened at the store? If so, maybe tell him that it's okay if Toby comes back and try down playing what happened? But now I am thinking you already tried this.

My DD hid something that I maybe a big deal out of. Someone I know thought she hid it because of my reaction. Once I down played it and made it seem like it was not a big deal anymore, it magically reappeared.
