This is making me so uneasy, but I think we have to do it.
If you've been through this, was it for one reason or a bunch of little ones? Did LO take a long time to adjust?
I switched when Cooper was 8 months, so a very different situation. I also never intended to stay at the first daycare, it was a short-term solution until there was a spot at the 2nd school. We suffered through about a month and a half of bad separation anxiety every morning but now he's fine and I know he loves it there.
Page MGR if she doesn't respond, she switched recently and her son is older, she might have some advice for you.
My big boy is bounding towards 4! Baby brother coming in October!
We switched our LO about 3 weeks after her first birthday. It was a decision that both DH and I had been thinking about for months. The original place that she was going to, was brand new when she started at 4 months. So we understood then that there would be some hiccups. But when she hit 1yr and things still hadn't been fixed, we decided to move on.
The first day at the new daycare was so so. Sydney went right in and started playing, but half way through the day she started crying. The 2nd day and on, for about a week, was pretty rough. She would cling to me so tight when I dropped her off and spent most of the morning crying. But on that first Monday of the 2nd week, she went right into the room like she had been going there since the beginning. It even shocked me. But I have to give credit to the staff. Her new teachers were so patient with her and continued to show support, to me as well. Because it was really rough on me at first. They just kept telling me to give it time and she'll be ok and that's all she needed.
We're considering switching from a small daycare (there are only two kids in his room right now!) to a larger, more structured Primrose school.
Matt's room has had a new teacher since the middle of August, and it's pretty obvious that things aren't going to change as long as she's there. It's just a shame since the rest of the teachers at the center are great- I'd rec them to anyone.
Resa, I am so glad the switching went so well for you! I am hoping the same for Matt.
We switched at around 8 months. We were on the waiting list for one closer to us, and it opened up - so we did it for convenience, plus it was a better school. I was worried about it, but the adjustment was smooth. Everytime he switches classes, it's a little adjustment period (can you wait until he about to move up to another class, so he will be transitioning, anyway?). Everything works out after a week or two, though. Just take it day by day until then.
We switched at 3 years and the transition took a couple of months. But she is very happy now, almost a year into being at her current school, and hardly remembers her old school anymore. (She remembers more about where it is than the people that are there).

We switched our son about 6 weeks ago to a more structured preschool environment. I had extenuating circumstances that necessitated an immediate move that didn't involve the quality of school he was previously in, but we have been super happy with it, nonetheless.
It took a couple weeks for Joe to be happy about going to his new school. He misses his old friends, but now loves his new friends just as much. It was SO HARD dropping him off that first day and seeing the horrific look in his face.....but he adjusted well and in short time.
Thank you so much for the replies. I think we are going to wait until the first of the year to do the switch....I'm not sure how he would be with all of the holiday frenzy doing it any earlier.
I also want him to have a chance to hang out in the new place for a little while too (ie trade germs ) He's only got one other classmate currently....I won't miss him, but Matt might even though he gets bitten sporadically.
