  • I actually am kinda grossed out by the thought,,,,and those girls seem strange, naming thier moms breasts!!
  • Honestly, I'm a little curious how it affects them when their older.

I'm also all for extended breastfeeding, but come on, time to wean.

  • Not my cup of tea. I just imagine my 8 year old cousin breastfeeding and it creeps me out.
  • That is like me still BFing my daughter...not good.
  • Ick!  Something creeps me out about breastfeeding once a child's long-term memory sets in.

Your son is adorable! I love that picture.

  • Um, wow.  Strange.
    31 months!
  • at that point, breastfeeding is purely for mom as the kids are not getting anything out of it that they still need.  It sounds like a recipe for counseling to me!
  • I'm totally grossed out by this!  Way too old!

  • eww. once you are old enough to ASK for it, it's time to be done with it!

while i think 8 is extreme, i have to disagree with this. define "ask" because ds has been able to non verbally ask for a couple months. the world health organization recommends 2 yrs, and by 2 they can verbally ask for it.

when they are old enough to have a cell phone and call you for it.  then, it's time to wean.

  • Um, I have an 8 yr old D and this is just unimaginable!  Kinda sick if you ask me....eew!
  • I've read that children who are allowed to wean themselves will usually do so between ages 2 and 7. So obviously this isn't the first time a child has been BF this long. And as the WHO recommends BFing until 2.5 I'm not sure how we can put a bad label on children who are able to "ask" for it. Do I personally think 8 is too old? Absolutely. But hey...whatever works for your family.
  • Weaning at age 8 is the norm in Mongolia...or so I read. Strange to me, but whatever.

DD has been signing for milk since she was 7 mo...so I definitely disagree with the "asking for it" statement.
