homemade Christmas gifts

So, what's everyone making?  So far I am making orange marmelade, a stocking for DS (and DH if I have time), todder pillowcases for a friends DD and rice socks.

Re: homemade Christmas gifts

  • I'm making fudge and granola in the food department. I'll be making these necklaces for some of the ladies in my family, potting some small herbs for others, making these hand puppets for my nieces along with some felt flower and button hair clips. I need to think of something else to make for the men. For stocking stuffers I'm making peppermint bark and chocolate dipped pretzels.

  • We store-bought most Christmas gifts because we did homemade birthday presents this year.  For brithdays, I did a jar of soup mix and a jar of cookie mix (for MIL), a coin purse filled with essentials like lip gloss, a pen and notepad (for 14 y/o niece), a kitchen apron and old costume jewelry (for 5 y/o niece), a set of fabric blocks (for 1 y/o great nephew), a pillow (for 16 y/o nephew), a PUL lined beach bag (for 15 y/o niece), no-sew fleece blanket (for 9 y/o niece).

For a friend, I made a wetbag and a set of fabric blocks for each of her twins.  And for Christmas, I'm making a laptop bag for MIL (her request) and for DS, I'm making a toolbelt out of an old pair of my jeans... and I'm making stockings for my little family.

  • I love the fabric blocks idea....anyone have a link to good instructions?
  • For DD:  felt play house, doll clothes, maybe some appliqued shirts if I have time

    For grandparents:  Photo blocks  https://littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com/2009/12/easy-photo-blocks-tiles.html

Some kind of homemade goodie, probably strawberry banana bread

Thank you for this link- those are very pretty! I may make one for my mom!

We're trying to cut down on presents this year (though with the new baby, I know we'll still end up with a truckload of presents to bring home), but I would like to make a few handmade items.

Felt food for my niece and DD (ha, she should be able to at least chew on them by then!).

I'm weaving paracord survival bracelets for the men-folk (ha, love that word!). It's just a small woven band, but when you unravel it, it contains 8 feet of military cord, very useful in survival situations (or even when you just need some very strong, thin rope!) There are lots of good tutorials online and all the fellas in my family are outdoorsmen, so I'm really excited about this one, but unsure how I'll be able to get them all done without my hubs seeing it!

I'll do peppermint bark dipped and chocolate pretzels, too. I also made strawberry-peach freezer jam.

I'm bookmarking this thread to poach ideas!

I'm curious, myself!  DH would like that, I think.

We've had DS make some ornaments this year.  I'm knitting some ornaments as well for people.  DS is going to be making some decorative wooden trees that he got inspiration from an Etsy search.  I'm thinking of making some HCOAS for my sisters and aunt.  Love to hear what others are doing and maybe get some more ideas!!

  • I started making gifts in July (maybe earlier?).  I have a silk lace scarf knit for MIL.  For my mom, I sewed her an adorable market bag, knit a pair of socks, sewed a set of eight cloth napkins, and am about 2/3 finished knitting her a scarf.  The "bulk" gifts that everyone will get are homemade vanilla extract and various different jams and jellies.

I need to figure something out for sMIL and FIL.  They just bought a second home, and I'm thinking that a set of cloth napkins and matching hand towels would be nice.  Or even an apron for sMIL?  Maybe with some eensie weensie little jars of jam, since they won't be at that house for long periods of time.

DH got a boat and a gun safe and I'm replacing his (lost!!!) wedding ring.  He's officially gifted for like three more years.

I've been buying little gifts for the kiddos all year long.

Extended family (siblings, friends, etc) will probably just get a gift basket with the jams and vanilla.

  • So far...glass tile necklaces.  PJ pants & tote bags are in the works.  Not sure what else at this point, but it's constantly on my mind.  :)
