Just curious.

  • I don't know of anyone that has.  But my one friend who used it said she had problems with it staying in.  I have heard mixed reviews about it...not sure that I trust it 100%.

Yea I've heard that it can come out during sex but as long as you put it back in within 3 hours, it's still effective.

  • I have four friends that have been on it for years and they all love it. And as far as trying get pregnant once off of it, one of them took it out for one of the weeks and got pregnant the first time after unprotected sex.

ETA: Sorry I don't think I actually answered your question

  • Yeah it falls out sometimes during sex, which is sort of awkward. I've also never heard of anyone get pregnant while using it.
  • I've never heard of anyone getting pg while on it either. I used it for 5 years and never had a problem with it coming out, except for once in a while it would get hooked on a tampon or something. Just wash it and put it back in, no biggie. As long as you get it back in within 3 hours you are still protected. And I was able to get pregnant very quickly after taking it out (one period between taking it out and BFP).

How did it get stuck on a tampon, aren't you supposed to take it out the week of your period?

  • Yes, but for me I still bled for up to 2 days after putting it back in. BUT my period didn't even start until 4-5 days after I took it out. And if you are condsidering it, I found out that if for some reason you want to delay your period (vacation or something), every day you are late taking it out delays your period for 1-2 days. That comes in handy.

Oh, duh me, I didn't think about that. Delaying taking it out doesn't affect it's effectiveness??

Not as long as you still put it back in when you are originally supposed to, i.e. you would have it out for 5 days instead of 7 or something like that. And my periods were soooo regular on it. I could predict my period within about 6 hours. It was great.

First, I wouldnt count on its effectiveness if you take it out late. The ring has a certain dosage of hormone in it that is control-released over the 3 weeks that you are to have the ring in. I wouldnt count on that hormone being high enough to prevent pregnancy past the 3 week mark---although I can say I have taken mine out late before and never got pregnant while on it.

I was on the Nuva ring for 5 years---since my last son was born in '05 until we stopped in February to prepare to get pregnant. I, too, will attest to getting pregnant rather quickly after stopping though. I had one period after stopping and the got my BFP. I REALLY liked the Nuva Ring because my periods were like CLOCKWORK...I took it out Saturday night/Sunday morning and respectivelly was on my period Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Flow lasted 5 days and was really light the last 2-3 days. Only problem with it, my blood pressures. They were crazy high on it--and weve now decided on non-hormonal BC methods after this pregnancy. Good luck!

  • I didn't get ku while on it, but I used it for about 7 month before I got married.

    I hated it.

I thought it was uncomfortable. There were lots of times when it felt like it was coming out - like when you, ehm, strain down there. It actually physically got in the way of enjoying sex for me. The hormones killed my sex drive and made it really hard to have an orgasm. Also, I got killer headaches. Once I finally went off of it,  I never had one of those headaches again.

Also, I tried to skip my period right before my wedding by putting my next ring in when I was supposed to leave it out for a week. It ended up backfiring and I had my period for like 2 weeks instead.

Bottom line for me, it kept me from getting pregnant but I was miserable.

  • I used nuvaring for 4 1/2 years and loved it.  I had problems at the beginning switching from bc to nuvaring, but after a month everything was great.

I don't know anyone who got preganant while on it, and I didn't have any problems with it coming out during the deed.

I just stopped after I got married last May and tried the TCOYF book.

ETA: Also, I read somewhere or something that even though you leave in for 3 weeks and take out during 4th it has enough hormones to last up to 5 weeks just 'in case'.  I was bad about delaying my period a lot cause I didn't want to have it.  I had less side affects than the pill (I sucked at the pill, hence my first son) and my periods were way lighter and exactly 3 days.

My OB told me this and actually had me keep it in 4 weeks instead of 3. She said there was plenty of hormones to cover an extra week and then some.

I screwed around with it all the time for vacations, my wedding, honeymoon etc, but I always used back up BC when I would do something like this.

  • I did! A few years ago and had a miscarriage. DH says it was user error but I think I only left it in the extra week like others have mentioned.

  • I got pregnant while on NuvaRing.  I was on it for over 4 years- It would cause me to skip several periods in a row and when I had them they were quite light.  But because of the regularity of skipping periods I did not know I was pregnant until I was 22 weeks and then only went to the doctor because of other symptons (pain & sudden weight loss).  I had no symptons - no nauseau, no breast tenderness, no weight gain.
