I know everyone is different and I'm definitely going to ask my doctor about this when I see her on Thursday. But, in the meantime, I'm just curious...when did you stop exercising during your twin pregnancy? I'm 20 weeks and have been working out moderately (walking and using elliptical) since the beginning. This week, however, I just don't feel up to it. I'm feeling "off" and experiencing more discomfort and haven't been working out. Problem is...I'm one of those people who has always worked out and has a bit of "guilt" when I don't get some exercise in. I know my babies come first, but I want to try to remain as active as possible.
What did your doctor recommend, or what did you do?
Thanks!!
Re: When did you stop exercising?
I stopped at 8 weeks and never went back to exercising. I began heavily bleeding... had a SCH (subchorionic hematoma) and did not want to risk anything.
At 16-20 weeks, I was out of breath walking to the neighbors house and back. (4 houses uphill) it was 90+ degrees tho

Living After Losing
I ran until 32w and walked until almost 35w when I delivered. (If you're super bored, you can read my running blog below. The pg stuff starts about Februrary.)
The only instructions I was given was to stay hydrated and listen to my body. I was pg in spring/summer, so temps were much higher than now. I also purchased a support belt that made a huge difference. I was getting some bh contractions, and the belt really kept them away.
Like I said, the biggest thing is listening to your bod. You're tired for a reason. You're growing people! Being pregnant is a 9 month workout, and more than one baby is twice that. If you feel up to moving every day, go for it. If you feel like all you want to do is curl on the couch and get your feet rubbed, do that too. I promise your fitness will return post-babies if you want it to.
I exercised pretty much my entire pregnancy. I went to the gym regularly until my 34 wk appt since my one baby was measuring small (SGA). The last month (38w5d) until delivery, I just walked and did light free weights.
I was an exerciser before getting pg so my RE and my MFM were on board with me continuing to exercise. I always checked with the dr. throughout to make sure my activity level was ok or if I should modify. Listen to your body! On the days I was tired/achy, I didn't force myself.
Swimming, walking, stationary bike, prenatal yoga were all good exercises.
i started running less at 24 weeks but continued until 29 weeks (also swam and rode my bike on a trainer). At that point, my doctor told me to wind it down and stick to the pool (no weight on cervix in the pool).
I love to run, and even bought a Bob jogger... but looking back thru my pregnancy pics...at 30 weeks... I was humongous.
Trust your body. It's telling you to slow down. Guilt schmilt. It doesn't matter what other people do or what your doctor says--do what your body is telling you to do, and feel good about that.
Personally, I did very little organized activity during pregnancy. I wasn't sedentary, but I limited myself to going for a walk when I felt like having a walk, etc. I did go to a weekly open swim or a while. If I had felt like running/jogging, I would have done it, but I never did. I was exhausted/puking for the first half of pregnancy, and then I had hideous acid reflux--last thing I wanted to do was bounce.
What is your resting heart rate?
Mine shot up to 120 bpm early in the pregnancy. The docs recommend that you don't ever exceed 140 bpm, so they told me not to exercise at all during the pregnancy. At first I was bummed, but soon enough it became a chore for me to go up and down stairs, or walk to my car in the parking lot. That was enough exercise for me!
As you already know, check with your doc (hopefully you are seeing an MFM/Peri).
