On p. 235 there is a section on "abnormal bleeding" that has me a little freaked out:

If you have what is referred to as postmenstrual brown bleeding, defined as two or more days of brown or even black bleeding at the tail end of your period, it is probably caused by an irregular shedding of the endometrium and small fragments of endometrial tissue, the result of suboptimal luteal function in the prior cycle.

I always have some brown spotting at the end of my period, very similar to premenstrual spotting.  It never crossed my mind that this could be abnormal.  I just began charting mid-cycle as practice for my next cycle, so I unfortunately I don't know much about my luteal phase.  Should I be worried?

That little paragraph worried me too.. I always have had this, and since I've been charting for a month, almost 2, I still have it, plus a short luteal phase. This is just my 2nd month off the pill though, so it might be my body adjusting. Once you begin charting, you can see if your luteal phase is actually shorter than normal or not.

I don't know if you should be worried or not, but I have that too.

I have it too.    My LP is about 13 days long.  So I don't know what to say....

Phew!  It makes me feel ALOT better to see your charts...thanks   I have my annual appointment in a couple of weeks so I'll mention it to my OB.  The more I learn the more paranoid I am.

Sorry   After reading all the frequent posts about spotting I'm starting to believe that spotting alone is not indicative of anything other than the fact that you have a uterus

I got that every cycle...and it wasn't just a couple days. It was like 4 days after the "real" flow stopped. My LP was just fine and I got KU just fine.

That's weird I thought this was normal, I always have this after AF for 2-3 days. It seems like most girls have this, I wouldn't worry too much.

I have spotting before and right after my period, and sometimes it looked almost black. I asked my doctor about the spotting (before and after) and she said it was perfectly normal. And now I'm pregnant, so hopefully that will further reassure everyone that spotting is okay. Good luck!

I've always had that and I have gotten pregnant 3 times very easily.  Try not to stress about this, and remember that TCOYF was not written by a doctor.
