Every year it's a struggle to figure out how to manage all of our different families. There's my husband's parents, my father and stepmom, my mom's family, and my stepdad (he and my mom recently divorced). I always say we aren't going to run around and try to please everyone, but I still end up doing it. Most likely this year, we will have a full dinner with DH's parents at noon, drive an hour to my Meme's for dessert, and then another half hour to my Nana's for a second dinner.
Does anyone else have a crazy Thanksgiving schedule? BTW, I have thought about hosting it myself and just inviting everyone, but we live three hours away from all the family, so it just won't work.
Re: How many Thanksgivings do you do?
Thanksgiving is definitely crazy (2 or 3 visits), but Christmas is much worse (5 + visits). Both of our parents are divorced, so there's always a minimum of 4 places to go for any given holiday, more if we try to see siblings or grandparents. For Thanksgiving, though, we came to an agreement with my dad that we would go to his place every other year. So this year, we're going to my dad's, then DH's sister's for dessert.
I dont' mind the driving, it's the attitude of "you're leaving ALREADY?" that irks me. There seems to be a lack of empathy sometimes.
