How many Thanksgivings do you do?

Every year it's a struggle to figure out how to manage all of our different families.  There's my husband's parents, my father and stepmom, my mom's family, and my stepdad (he and my mom recently divorced).  I  always say we aren't going to run around and try to please everyone, but I still end up doing it.  Most likely this year, we will have a full dinner with DH's parents at noon, drive an hour to my Meme's for dessert, and then another half hour to my Nana's for a second dinner.

Does anyone else have a crazy Thanksgiving schedule?  BTW, I have thought about hosting it myself and just inviting everyone, but we live three hours away from all the family, so it just won't work.

I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.

Re: How many Thanksgivings do you do?

  • We will be doing three this year...this is how it is every year. We will my to my in-laws for brunch (3 minutes away), my dads family for lunch and my mom's family for dinner (both live half hour away)!

  • Thanksgiving is definitely crazy (2 or 3 visits), but Christmas is much worse (5 + visits). Both of our parents are divorced, so there's always a minimum of 4 places to go for any given holiday, more if we try to see siblings or grandparents. For Thanksgiving, though, we came to an agreement with my dad that we would go to his place every other year.  So this year, we're going to my dad's, then DH's sister's for dessert.

I dont' mind the driving, it's the attitude of "you're leaving ALREADY?" that irks me.  There seems to be a lack of empathy sometimes.

  • our's isn't too crazy, we drive to my sister in laws for lunch (she is about 45 minutes away) and then we go to my aun't house for dinner (which has my whole family).  That is about 30 minutes from my sister in laws house but on the back home and 20 minutes from our house.  Not too bad!  this is pretty much what we do for every holiday except on my side someone different hosts each holiday
  • DH's parents are divorced, so we have 3 places to go, and on Christmas, 4.  It's a PITA, but we do it.  We live 7+ hours from family, so it's not like we can host! :P
  • I'm only going to 1 Thanksgiving.
