Cost of a cemetary plot/headstone?

I guess this is probably something that could really vary by region but does anybody know a ballpark estimate of cost?

My father has my brother's ashes and my siblings and I would really love to have them buried here at a cemetary in NY. We have a lot of family buried there and since we are all here too, it just seems like the right place for him to be. The hard part will be the fact that none of us speak to my father and he gets off on punishing us, so I am not sure he will ever go for it, knowing it would make us happy.

We are going to try to convince him (or have a family member) by informing him we are willing to pay for it..but we honestly have no idea on what that cost may even be.

This isn't meant to sound snarky at all, but I would suggest calling a few local places and asking them your options. The ballpark range on this kind of thing is really, really broad.

I tried looking online in my area and could not find ANYTHING!! I could (and will) call, I was just wondering if anyone had any idea before I did. I am completely ignorant to it and have no idea if it is $1000-$10000. (But like you said, I guess it could be that range if it is something that varies greatly.)

I want to say that they are in the area of 3-4 thousand based on the last time my family needed one.

Huge, huge variance depending on where you are. I know that you can get a plot in a small podunk town cemetary here for about $1k.

Markers/headstones though are a different story. Even really small ones are surprisingly expensive.  My aunt died in the 80s and didn't have a marker until sometime within the last decade because my grandma just couldn't come up with the cash. Plus then the cemetery will often charge a fee for installing it. I don't have an actual figure, but I know it's $$$.
