iud

i made the decision to get the mirena iud but since then i have got online and looked up side effects that other women have had. well i have only found negative comments about it. i guess what im trying to find out is what people think about it. does anyone have anything positive to say? ive only had it for a week so havent really had side effects yet.

Re: iud

  • Well, I've heard differing opinions.  For those who have no issues, I think it's totally the way to go!  I got one shortly after DD was born.  I spotted FORever.  I realized why it's effective birth control...because when you're spotting more days than not then no one's having sexy time.  I waited and waited and waited to stop spotting.  When I wasn't spotting I was crampy...especially if I did anything as strenuous as buy groceries, run 2-3 errands in a row (so yeah, not strenuous at all for most normal people).  Then there was the "string" that my OB said she trimmed super short to begin with.  At my checkup to make sure it was still placed properly she said she couldn't even find the strings.  Well, MH could feel them and he said it was like having sex with a pincushion.  That part sucked too.  So, the only positive was that I didn't have to remember to take a pill, go get scripts refilled monthly or change a patch or nuva ring like I've done in the past.  After months of hoping it would get better I finally had it removed.  Best decision ever so far.  I'm back on the pill and it's all good.  However, I cannot stand any form of hormonal bc whatsoever.  But it's better than an unplanned pregnancy.  I hope it works out better for you than it did for me because I think it's the easiest way to go.

I spotted for a month or so after insertion but have had NO issues since then. Also, I don't get a period which is freakin heaven.

  • I had the paragard and loved it. Slightly heavier period the first month then back to normal.

  • I still get monthly periods but they are MUCH shorter and MUCH lighter. I also don't get PMS symptoms like I used to - no more aching back, cramps, general pissiness etc.

I never have to remember to take it.

It is good for 5 years.

    It has very little hormones.

    I personally love the IUD.
