Cloth Diapering

CDs are giving DD a rash!

I'm at my wits end here.  I've tried everything to get rid of and keep DDs diaper rash gone.  She's in Fuzzibunz OS and has been since about 1month old.  She developed a rash that wouldn't quit, so we put her into disposables with diaper cream.  Once the rash was gone, we put her back into cloth and the rash came back.  She went back into disposables, and I washed the heck out of our Fb OSs.  I had been using Charlies Soap (recommended by the mfg), but got some RnG to make sure they were clean, free of build up etc.  Rash went away, back into cloth, rash came back.  Her pedi prescribed an anti-fungal cream.  We used that for two weeks, rash was gone for all of the 2nd week, but we kept using it to make sure.  She went back into cloth and the rash came back!  Argh!  What to do now?  It also seems like the rash is concentrated where the leg openings are.  The leg openings aren't tight, so I don't think it's a friction thing.  The only thing I can think of to do now is to let out the elastic and wash like heck again (maybe the irritant/bug is caught in the scrunching of the leg openings?).  Any other suggestions?

  • Sounds like yeast. The only way to kill it is bleach.  Wash them with 1/4 cup of bleach.

  • I have read that CHarlies Soap can cause a pretty bad reaction in some babies. Have you tried them after washing solely with another brand?

  • 1) Your doc gave you antifungal for the rash, which means it was a yeast rash assuming the antifungal cured it.

    2) Yeast lives in the CDs until you kill it. Bleach them per the previous poster's directions.

    3) Make sure your LO has been rash free for about a week before going back to CDs.

  • I have been fighting a similar fight.  I have switched to Soft Rock Rock N Green and have been using 1/4c of bleach.  I have also been have DD eat some yogurt every day.  I hate using disposables when I have such a huge stash of CDs.
