I really want a ham sandwich! How long do I need to microwave it so it is free of listeria aka the illness I never heard of before getting pregnant? haha Thanks
the idea of microwaving deli meat skeeves me out sooo bad!! To be honest... I've been eating like 1-2 ham sandwiches a week since I've been pregnant. My dr. said the highest risks are with 'make-believe' deli meat... such as salami and bologna. I think ham and turkey are the safest bets.
just finished doing this!! spread it out on a plate in a single layer, or double layer if you've had it sliced super thin. 45 seconds does it. (at least it makes it steam) then pop it in the fridge to let it cool back down. just don't put it back in its original packaging. a ham sandwich was the only thing i wanted for 2 months until i decided to try the microwave. you really can't tell the difference once you've let it cool.
Not sure about putting ham in the microwave, but it's really good if you heat it in a skillet. Put a few slices in the skillet and it will start to brown, then stack the ham and put a slice of cheese on top to melt for a second, put it on toasted bread. A lot better than how I would envision steaming meat from the microwave!

Until it's steaming. 15-20 sec maybe? Nuke the meat alone on a plate before you put it on the sandwich, it's much better that way.
