My sister is dealing with a lot of problems with her 8 month old. She's never been a good sleeper and it seems to be getting worse for her. She works full time and doesn't always have a lot of help from her husband. He travels a lot. Noah was always a good sleeper, so I'm not really sure what advice to give her...so I thought I'd ask here.
My Mom watches her 5 days a week while my sister works....she says she's a very inconsistent napper. She's waking up multiple times a night and doesn't go back to sleep very easily. Some days she wakes up at 4:30 and won't go back down. My sister has to wake her up early anyways (probably 6 at the latest I think) but 4:30 is more than she can handle!
What methods worked for you? Any advice I can pass along to her?
Re: If you had a poor sleeper
The book is called "solve Your Child's Sleep Problems" and I would definitely check it out. Sleep training is a controversial topic on mom boards, but it was an absolute necessity for us at that point.

I was pretty lucky with Nicholas being a good sleeper but my best friend has a baby that is 2 weeks younger than Nicholas and he is a HORRIBLE sleeper but she had a lot of success w/ using a modified Babywise schedule (eat, play, sleep) George (her DS) still doesnt nap a ton but she was able to get him sleeping through the night at least (8pm-6:30am)...I know alot of people have pretty strong feelings about babywise but we also have used a very structured modified version from the get-go and I do wonder if it has helped us have such a good sleeper HTH!
We Ferbered around 8 months, too.
Us too. Changed our lives and made me a new woman. I highly recommend Ferber.
I think everyone know's DD's story by now. At 13 mo. she still sleeps worse than most newborns and has long wakings every night despite cosleeping. She is a crappy napper and I work F/T so it is very hard to function (nearly impossible many days), and she is up at 5 am every day.
We are trying Ferber again even though I have little hope of it working, but honestly, sleep training does not work for every kid. We have honestly tried it all, as in all sleep training methods both CIO and NCSS, moving naps, bedtime, bedtime routine, mealtime, temperature, positioning, you name it. Nothing works for DD.
If she has tried sleep training and given it a tried and true shot (CIO method like Ferber) as well as tried moving bedtime, naps, etc. , I'd have her asked to be referred to a sleep specialist, which is where we are now at. I wish I had been more insistent with our pedi about it.
I'm really sorry she is going through this. I am reaching my breaking point and it is not fun, and we have no end in sight. I hope she is able to figure out something that helps.
We just ferberized Zac this past week. He was 8 months on the 13th. He was a terrible sleeper - random short naps through out the day, and up multiple times a night. Things seriously got better in 4 days!
