Help, I'm seriously overwhelmed by strollers

We started looking at gear since we will begin putting our registry together in the next few weeks, and when it comes to car seats/strollers and confused.  I've been recommended the Snap and Go to use with a carseat, but also recommended this nice sturdy stroller that folds in one movement, and also a lightweight umbrella stroller....

What the heck?  I don't want to register for 4 or 5 different pieces of equipment.  What is the most efficient, useful way to go from those of you who already have kids?

  • After hours of research this weekend I registered for city mini with the car seat adapter.  I'm actually pretty excited about it!

Good to know.  That was actually the easy fold up stroller that was recommended to me.  Good to know they have a car seat adapter!

  • I have one stroller- when DS is older than 6 months I'll buy an umbrella stroller but that's it. We have the uppa baby vista with the bassinet (which he LOVES now), car seat adapter- hopefully he'll like his car seat one day so I can use it because right now he HATES it. We also have the big stroller seat that we will install when he can hold his head up and grows out of the bassinet feature. My vista folds up easy and its great for the mall (with a huge basket) and I can also use it outside. So far I'm in love with it.

My second choice would have been the something from the city jogger line.

  • We're going with the Graco Snugride car seat (plus an extra base) which fits a Graco Metro lite stroller. We are hoping that the Metro lite will be the only stroller we'll need for a while. We decided not to go with a Snap and Go - I know a lot of women love it, but to us it just seemed like one more piece of equipment to buy.

Pretty much this. We got the Uppababy Vista and will probably get an Umbrella stroller somewhere down the line. I also hear that the City Mini and the City Select are great strollers. If you decide to go the Snap N Go route then there is no need for a big stroller- just get it and an infant seat and once baby is bigger you can get an umbrella stroller like a Maclaren that reclines all the way.

  • I cannot see paying almost $700 for a stroller (like the Uppababy Vista). I think that is ludicrous.  I got a snap & go handed down from a friend and will use my car seat with that to start.

This might be a stupid question, but can this be used as an actual jogging stroller too? Like is there a need for the BOB if you have this?

No, Baby Jogger is just the brand. They have joggers though. I'm going with the City Summit XC because I wanted a jogger. I LOVED the Mini though. I got a MacLaren Snap and Go (a little nicer than the graco) but it was given to me. It folds up like an umbrella stroller which is what I need for the first few months because of spacing issues in my car so this is what will work best for us.

Thank you! Sometimes I feel like I have stupid questions, but with this being our first I'm rather clueless!

Not stupid! The name is deceiving! To be honest though, I have seen people jog with the Mini, but the wheels are plastic and there are no shocks to absorb bumps etc. The Summit,  has inflatable wheels and shocks. It doesn't fold as small as the mini but it folds just as easily. All the Baby Joggers (except the Select) fold with 1 hand.

Well, that is very special for you, isn't it?

That is the great thing about strollers -- there is one for every lifestyle.  I Snap and Go would suck for us on the hills in our neighborhood and uneven city street/curbs/etc.

Not everyone needs a mall crawler.

WTF?  Pretty sure she wasn't trying to offend you.  Not everyone can/wants to spend $700 on a stroller.

  • I was also recommended the city mini and tried it out and love it.  i will be getting that along with a Graco snugride infant carseat (not the 35).  I had registered for the carseat adaptor ($50) but then a friend offered me her snap-n-go ((normally $60) so I will use that instead for the first 6 months or so.  You might be able to find a used snap-n-go on Craig's List which would save you some money and a bit of wear and tear on your city mini (if you go that route).

  • I also did one stroller- the City Mini with carseat adaptor for my Graco Snugride.  I have been using it for 3 months now and love it.  My baby sits up so high and it is really easy to use.  I also have a hand me down snap n go and compared to the City Mini, it sucks. I like not only the one hand fold, but the one hand push that can be done with City Mini while talking on phone or drinking my coffee.  I really wanted the Uppa Baby Vista and had registered for it (nobody got it for me which I was not surprised at) and since I was in hospital on bedrest unpaid- plus missed disability by 2 days so went 4 months total this year without being paid, we decided to pay our mortgage instead of buying the Uppa.  I was so sad at first as I loved that stroller, but I have never looked back and could not be happier with every aspect of the City Mini.  I also suggest getting the parent console.

  • With my first, I had a lovely stroller/travel system that weighed eight million tons and thus got very little use.

This time around, I opted to do the graco snugride carseat with the snugrider (similar to the snap n go, but made specifically for the snugride carseat, and as such more stable.) in part because weight is a big issue-- if something is a pain in the ass to get in and out of the car, I'm probably not going to use it as much as I could-- and in part because it was a cheaper option.

With my oldest, we got the most use out of a really good-quality umbrella stroller. That's what I'll spend the bulk of my "stroller budget" on-- still lightweight, more functional, usable for longer.

    This is my plan exactly.

OP, if you have a Buy Buy Baby nearby I highly suggest you go talk to someone in their stroller dept there.  They have a ton more strollers to try in the store than any other baby store I have been to.  The saleslady was also extremely knowledgeable about strollers, carriers, and carseats and if/how they can be used together.

  • Check out eBay for the City Mini's car seat adapter bar... I just got one for $29.99, which is a huge savings over retail.

Also, to the mom who recommended the parent console, is it one sold by Baby Jogger or a different brand?

  • The parent console is made by Baby Jogger.  I love it.  I can clip my diaper bag on to it, and it fits my keys, phone and beverage.

  • We bought a First Years Wave. It came with a car seat adapter and the seat also converts to a bassinet, although we do use it reclined in the regular seat with DD a lot since she's been holding her head up pretty well for a while. It's not as nice as an Uppa (which I adored and wanted badly) but it works well for us, and we like it a lot.

We didn't buy an infant car seat -- it was a lifestyle choice for us, and it's just as well since DD is huge (17 pounds!) and there is NO WAY I would be carrying her in one of those things. We wear her or carry her on trips to the store.

But there are plenty of good strollers that come with  car seat adapters. Personally, I'd probably try to find one that has enough of a recline for a newborn as well, just in case your baby hates the car seat. Mine likes to sit up and look around, although she loves the bassinet when she's asleep or calm and awake.

  • I'm going with the Uppababy Vista and the Chicco Key Fit. It's very overwhelming, there are so many different optinos and price points. It does really help to go to the store and look at all of them. The people at Buy Buy Baby know alot about the strollers and they have different options than Babies R Us. My husband freaked out when I told him I wanted the Uppababy Vista because of the cost but once we went out and looked at everything he really liked it much better than the other strollers. It just really depends on your family lifestyle, where you live and how much you want to spend.

  • We got the Uppababy Vista. Love all the features on it. My cousins each have one too and they love theirs.
  • The Phil and Ted is also another option. Narrow, can be used for jogging, pretty lightweight, can be used with a car seat but also has a full recline, and can be used as a double when the time comes. It is AMAZING.
  • Did LOTS of research myself, and didn't know until I looked online that the Peg Perego Si is actually compatible with the graco carseats. It's a high quality umbrella stroller that is very light and compact. I am also considering the Bumbleride Flyer, which is also compatible with graco, but more expensive than the Peg Perego. I recently purchased a used Bob revolution stroller off of craigslist and plan on using that for running/walking or all terrain excursions. So, I will only have 2 pieces of
