Preemies

NJ moms, Infant Apnea Center at St Peter's

Hello Preemie board :)

My daughter was born at 36 weeks, so was technically a preemie.  She had to do the car seat test and failed it 2x.  So, she is currently in a carbed.

We were told to get her retested around her due date.  My doc does not do it, so told me about the Apnea Center at St Peter's Hospital.

Does anyone have experience with them?  Or know another place that will do the testing?

Re: NJ moms, Infant Apnea Center at St Peter's

  • No help here regarding St. Peters, but welcome to the preemie board from a fellow NJ mama. Did you deliver at Morristown (Level III NICU) or one closer to home? How is LO doing since she's home?
  • I actually delivered at my local hospital.  She was not in the NICU at all.  Although she was early, she was almost 7.5 pounds and had no preemie complications, so she came home with me when I was discharged.

When they did the test, they really did not think she would fail.  But, she did twice and it shocked everyone.

I don't know all the stats, but I know that her heartrate drastically increased, and her Pulse Ox went down to around 75%, and something else that sounded pretty scary.

Because of that, she is in the carbed, and we can not use the swing, bouncy, or anything else that is not almost flat.  But, not on any monitors or anything.

We can't even "sit" her on our laps for more than a few minutes.  Her hands and lips turn purple.

So, other than those things, she is just fine.

  • Awww, I am sorry, that would scare the heck out of me! After 9 weeks of watching monitors go off, I was terrified of the carseat test! Thats great that she didn't require any NICU time though. Just be patient with regard to the carbed and other stuff, she will be out of the carbed and into the bouncy, carseat and swing in no time!
