Back from acupuncturist

I just got back from the acupuncturist (first visit). I was under the impression that I would feel differently after I finished. I thought that they hooked the needles to a machine or something. All my acupuncturist did was sit down and go through my medical hx, ask me a bunch of questions, then I had to lay there for 20 minutes with the needles in me. I did not feel different at all after I left. Granted, it is hard for me to relax and clear my mind but I thought I would feel something. I have IUI #3 tomorrow and then going back Monday morning. Did anybody else feel this way??

She also suggested stopping medication for 3 months and focus solely on acupuncture but that's not going to happen!!

Re: Back from acupuncturist

  • I usually talk for 30 minutes and lay with the needles in a dark room for another 30, or sometimes a full 45 just needles. There are methods where the needles have a small charge running through them, but I don't do that. There are a lot of different style of acupuncture, and my acu does a more gentle Japanese style with me rather than Chinese.

I definitely feel stuff going on, especially if my acu is trying to get something to happen. Often a point is warm, or slightly numb, or cold, but none of this is painful in any way and it goes away quickly. I either listen to waves or inspirational audio and the whole experience is very relaxing and I feel great all day.

My acu works with REs, which is not common, or without if that's where you are at. She is also very into diet and how that effects your potential.

It's all about finding the right fit. Same goes with haircutters and yoga instructors too.

I completely agree with this. When I go, I can feel a difference without a doubt. My acu also went through 4 years of IF and she works out of her home so it's really easy to get comfy and relaxed in her setup. She totally "gets" it. I love her. She always lets me stay as long as I need and sometimes we do really long sessions. I tend to fall asleep, lol.

  • I don't feel a dramatic difference, but I feel more relaxed (I would never lie still in the middle of the day otherwise. . . )

I wasn't crazy about my first acupuncturist because she talked the entire time and I was never alone. . .

I really like my new acupuncturist because she believes that eastern and western medicine should work together (my old one did, too).  She use the acu to support my treatments.

Mine too, and I LOOOOOVE her.  She could def be my friend.  She is going on vacation, and sent me to her fill in.  I go tomorrow.  I asked to go to one like her, and she automatically crossed a name off her back up list.

I def agree -it has to be the right fit.  I couldn't go to someone who didn't also believe in Western medicine.  Would be a BAD fit.

  • I work in a high stress environment and it's hard for me to shut my mind off for anything.  that being said, my acu knows this and her first question is always checking on my stress levels.  I walk out of there feeling such a calm and it may just be in my head but it lasts for a few days.  There are times (today for example) where I just felt like I needed it, if nothing else it's my meditation, relaxation time that I wouldn't otherwise get.

I've done the needs hooked up to the machine a few times on my back.  These are supposed to stimulate growth (according to my acu) and it's almost like a massage to me.

I wouldn't be comfortable (and I've seen other women on here say the same) with an acu who wanted me to stop medications.  My acu is all for both, which I like.

I didn't even know it was working until I got pregnant, and yes while I know that I can't be for sure the acupuncture helped I'm pretty positive it did!
