GD test

I have my Gestational Diabetes test tomorrow and I'm super nervous.  I'm afraid it's going to come back positive.  I feel perfectly fine, but anything can happen.  I know as long as I follow the diet the baby will be fine, but I feel like with so much going on bet working full time and getting ready for our little boy, and just everyday life, trying to stick to this diet will be very stressful.

I guess there's nothing i can do about it now so I should just relax and see what happens...easier said than done.

Re: GD test

  • If you are taking the 1 hour just keep in mind its just a screening and many of us have failed it.  I failed the 1 hour but passed the 3 hour test.  Good luck.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • yes it is just the one hour test
  • I hear it's not so bad - let us know how it goes!

  • I have taken the 1 hour test 3 times, and have failed it every time.  But I have passed the 3 hour twice, and the 2 hour once.  The 1 hour isn't bad, and even if you do fail it, unless you fail it horribly, there is still hope.

Since I have never passed the 1 hour, I get to go straight to the 2 hour (my new OB does a 2hr vs. the 3 hr) in 3 weeks. Yay me.

I failed the 1 hour horribly (by 50 points) and still passed the 3 hour.  So still hope even then.

  • Thanks girls I appreciate the positivity!  I'll let you know how I do as soon as I find out!

  • I got diagnosed with GD last week, and so far following the diet is not all that difficult. I also lead a busy lifestyle. I also got used to the frequent finger pricks pretty quickly.

GD may suck, but it's not the end of the world.

  • I am skipping to the 3 hrs test, my OB was surprised when I asked to do that but I took an early 1 hr (passed) and don't see the point in doing it again. If I fail, I fail. No more ice cream :-(

  • I had GD with my DD and it sucked but it wasn't as terrible as I thought. Once you get into a routine it gets easier. Good luck!

Edit:  Nevermind, I just reread your post and you are skipping the 1 hour and just doing the 3 hour.  That makes sense to me.  Sorry Embarrassed

I would probably reconsider this.  Its not just a matter of no more ice cream.  you have to check your blood sugar multiple times per day and the diet is fairly restrictive and low carb.  The biggest reason why I wouldn't just accept a diagnosis of GD, is it automatically classifies your pregnancy as high risk.  So if you are planning on delivering with a midwife at home or a birthing center, you probably wouldn't be able to anymore.   They may impose more restrictive monitoring on you at the hospital due to high risk status and may require that your baby be monitored in NICU for a period of time after the birth.  GD is totally manageable and not the end of the world, but there are some implications you should make sure you are comfortable with before just accepting the diagnosis without the test.

    This.

My OB wouldn't let me go past my due date with my DD b/c of GD (it's their standard policy with GD patients) so I had to get induced and ended up having a very difficult delivery. You'll have more options if you don't have GD.

    Izz, NP- it read weird

Amy and Jay- If I have GD, I have it, there's nothing I can do about it. Sure it makes things more complicated but that's the way it goes.

  • I went to the OB yesterday and when she measured my belly she said it was measuring a little larger than she would like, I didnt really know what to think about that but I took my 1 hour test yesterday after she checked me. I have a high risk of diabetes in my family already (on my dads side), my OB said she was curious to find out what the results were....well I just got a call and my results were "a little high". So I go first thing in the morning for my 3 hour test and am really freaking out, scared, nervous of the results. I just want everything to be ok but I just have a feeling that with my family history of diabetes that I am going to have GD. Before I was pregnant I was only about 10-15 lb overweight I guess you would say but nothing major at all, I am just a basket case and everything is just running through my head right now.
