I am recently pregnant and want to switch practices and I am looking for a VBAC friendly practice. I live in Abington, so ideally I would like to deliver there, but I am also open to Holy Redeemer or other hospitals.

Re: Anyone rec a practice that is VBAC friendly? (Abington area)
Thanks, actually with my first pregnancy I used Womencare and I didn't like them at all, so I am looking for a new group. Thanks anyway though.
I use Abington obgyn associates. they have offices in Horsham, Abington Hospital and Warrington. I don't know if they're vbac friendly, but deliver at Abington, which is a vbac friendly hospital. I know holy redeemer is not.
I love Dr Roberts, she is my primary. Dr Tannenbaum let me wait till 42 weeks before induction if I would take a non stress test (I delivered at 41.5 weeks when LO was good and ready) and Dr Martinez delivered my son. She made me feel at ease and never made me feel like we would have to go to a c-section. I do know someone who delivered with Dr Roberts who was exhausted and wanted a c-section, and Dr Roberts said, let's keep going, you can do it.
I also use Womencare. They are an all women based group.
My first delivery was at Abington with this group...a planned c-section due to breech. I am currently pregnant (8 wks) and had my first visit with them yesterday. They speak highly of VBAC after a first c-section, especially if we are planning for more pregancies after this one. Their rule is they will let you try VBAC, if only 1 previous c-section was performed, but if you had 2 c-sections, that option is off the table.
I would recommend a visit with Womencare.
I would suggest emailing a localish ICAN group leader for the stats on area hospitals VBAC rates - I bet Carrie from Lehigh Valley or Monica from SE PA group would have very available and be good to talk to. Unfortunately many times a woman is told that her VBAC will be supported and then towards the end of her pregnancy, all kinds of reasons are given for it not being an option anymore...I know because many of my doula clients go through this, and I've seen it happen over and over. Hospital based practices in general, some more than others, tend to be VERY CYA and sometimes even when you look like an ideal candidate going in, things can change just a tad and before or during labor, you are given harsh ultimatums. So, statistics say a lot - more than a label of being "VBAC friendly" - coming from a hospital with a c/s rate of 40% or so...hard to believe, but like I said, check with ICAN. I only know of women being fairly successful with VBAC's at Pennsylvania in the city - 8th and Spruce. You can totally DO IT, it is just finding the right support.
Otherwise, you might have the option of birthing at home with a certified professional midwife very well trained and experienced with VBAC's and I happen to know that their rates of VBAC success is over 80%.
Best to you. I'd love to know what you find out and what you decide.
