I've been taking Colace on and off for the last month or so. I eat plenty of fiber, drink water but with the extra iron my Dr has me on it's just not enough. So then I take the Colace for 4-5 days, everything is moving along great, and I stop taking it and things start to go downhill for me. Is it ok to take on a long term basis? I go to the dr on oct 12th and I'll ask her then, but I just thought I'd see if anyone had any experience.
Should I be trying something different? I've seen a lot of talk about Miralax, but don't you have to drink that? I like being able to just pop the Colace and not having to taste or drink it.
Re: Anyone taking Colace daily?
I've never taken Colace but from what I've heard taking something like that on a continous basis can be a bad thing because your body adapts to it, therefore you need it all the time.
(Of course, your doc would have much better info I'm sure ;-)
Do you eat fruit in the morning? I swear by a diet high in fruit, fiber and vegetables. As an experiment, I would try eating a good serving of fruit (esp. high fiber fruit) when you wake up and wait AT LEAST 30 mins. before eating anything else. This helps with your digestion.

My Dr actually told me to take a stool softener everyday. I brought in the bottle and as long as it does not have a stimulant (and it says on the bottle) it is OK. They want me to take this for the rest of the pregnancy at least once a day. She told me I could up it to 2-3 if I felt the need to. I also have IBS and pregnancy was really stopping me up. They also have me on extra fiber each day as well.
Have you seen what happens to your intestines when you're pregnant?

I really wouldn't worry too much about taking it every day if you really need to. Some prenatal vits even have stool softeners in them.
So far, fiber one and a cup of coffee works fine.
I've been sleeping on my left side for the last 2 weeks bc I've read this aids in digestion while your pregnant. Call me crazy, but, I think it's working bc I've pooped almost everyday for 2 weeks.
I don't have IBS, but ditto. I was stopped up for almost 5 wks straight during the first tri, and I was told to take this every day. I haven't been lately because I forgot to bring the Colace with me to my friend's, but still. I've had one BM since being here (on day 5) and it was... difficult.
