I think 'I' have our names!

DH keeps offering up silly names like Flor Ida Lastname.  I like oldies like Hazel and Pearl, but he says no way! We both agree on our boy name, but not our girl name. However, it is the ONLY girl name he's let me put in the maybe pile.

Russell James (nn Russ or just call him Russell, never RJ)

and

Susannah April  (April is not my favorite for a middle name, but it's for my only sister) (NN Susie?)

 

What do you think?

Hazel - LOVE IT!

Pearl - dislike, too elderly

Russell James - strong dislike.  hope you like "Rusty"

Susannah April  - strong dislike, not a fan of Susie, Suzy, Suzanne, Susan, etc.

If I had to pick from the names you mentioned, I'd name a girl Hazel and a boy James.

I really like Susannah and I have no problem with Russell. I LOVE the nn Susie. It's so sweet and I like that it's a little old fashioned. My mom is a Susan, and I'm not really a fan of that, but I like the other variations. The nn is Russ is nice, too.

Susannah has been my number one name for years--I absolutely love it. I even like it with April.

And I have a growing affection for Russell, too. Good choices!

I love Russell! It has a good history and is under-used IMHO...is holding steady in the 400s...he won't be one of six in his class.

James is a solid middle name. Susannah is lovely...definitely underused and doesn't even rank on the SSA list. April is okay (an A, word name similar to my own)...don't mind one way or another.

He would definitely need this children's book...

I love Russell actually. I went to school with one and his name was never shortened to Rusty. The thought of that honestly didn't even cross my mind.

 Susannah is also a from me. Great choices.

I love Russell! DH has a little cousin named Russell, and I've always thought that is such an underappreciated name. James is one of my favorite names, too; it makes a great MN.

And I totally get a "maybe" name being consolation. I swear, DH just assumes we're going to have all boys. Susannah April is pretty, and I like that you're honoring your sister with her MN. If you're not sold on April, though, you could use your sister's middle name. Though I'm not a big fan of Sue-names, Susie is a cute NN for a little girl.

Well I'm biased but I LOVE the name Russell.  It is traditional but still unique.  And Russ IMO is an adorable nickname.  GREAT choice!!

BTW, not one person has ever called DS Rusty.  Yuck!

I'm not a huge fan of Russell, but I do think the nn Russ could be cute. Anyway, it's an okay name - just nms. I know a lot of 40-50 year olds named Russell.

Susannah feels like a breath of fresh air! I don't know anyone who has used this name in years and years, but it is really pretty!

I quite like both of your choices!  The FNs aren't on my list or anything, but I'd be pretty happy to see them on someone else's children.  And I actually like April as a middle name...I think Susannah April sounds really cute together.  Great job!

I love the name Hazel.  It is so cute, yet is a nice mature name too.  I don't like Russell or Susannah much.  April is cute.

Susannah is one of my favorite names in the universe and I am so excited to see someone use it! I also secretly harbor a deep, deep adoration for the name Russell. So basically your names are perfection.
