Yes, I will be as bare as the day I came into the world. Its a personal hygeine thing...I want to be as clean as possible..& hair is disgusting. So I will be getting a wax 1 week before delivery.
No I won't because I never do (I trim a little for swimsuits but that's it). Personally, I think it's pretty lame that a nurse of all people would be "grossed out" by pubic hair - maybe you are in the wrong line of work.
FWIW, I had no issues with anything "stuck in my hair" after birth nor did I have trouble keeping myself clean.
If you want to "groom" do it for yourself not for medical professionals who should be above being skeeved out by natural hair.
oh please, being a health care professional doesn't make you immune to "gross" things. Plus I am a big advocate of helping those who help themselves. And keeping things tidy down there just makes everyone's job easier.
Funny how I had no issues with grossness - despite not being "tidy" I also fail to see how pubic hair is gross - birth isn't exactly an "ungross" thing so I think if you are bothered by blood in pubic hair, you are in the wrong game.
No one said we "health care professionals" were grossed out or skeeved out.
However, you make our jobs harder becaue you can't take five minutes to trim your wooly bush. When I have several other patients to take care of, you delay their care when I have to spend 15 minutes trying to moisten off dried clumps of lochia from your hair. Go to the store now, while you can still waddle your butt around, and grab some electric trimmers and when the day is approaching, just run it through. You don't have to be bald, but trimmed is helpful. Or get some Nair Shower Power cream. Smear it on and then let the shower water rinse it all away.
Not just because it's gross... because it's better for you. We can't leave that mess down there, even though I would be lying if I said we never think "you want to keep it unruly, you clean it".
Try reading what we wrote and not interpreting it your own way.
wow, you sound like *just* the type of nurse I hope to get when I go into labor.
As of last night my shaving days are over until after the baby comes. I sliced my vag up pretty bad during last night's attempt.
For this child I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.

I will be on some level but that is a personal preference of mine. I don't like having hair down there but I am never bald on top, always leave a little patch.
I will definitely be shaving! Not because it makes it "easier" for the doc or nurses, but because I do not want yuckness down there lol.It can get very gross and noone wants to deal with that.
I told my husband the minute I could no longer reach down there to trim he had to start. And he has no issue with doing it. I just think in the long run it's easier to clean.
I'm going to try to keep it up the whole pregnancy. But honestly I'm having a heard time reaching right now. But I havn't had hair down there since I started growing it. So if I can reach it I will, but if I cant I'll probably have my husband trim me. Hahaha.. why have someone who knows every inch of you if you cant utilize their services in times like these. Hehe.
As far as the Dr caring..I dont think they care at all either way. Its more for your comfort I guess.
I hate when random nurses & health care providers get on here with absurd stories about paralyzed women who had crazy bushes and died because their bladders exploded because the nurse was too busy chopping at the forest to get to the urethra.
Since most women are able to look after themselves after delivery the whole "go easy on your nurse" thing is hilarious to me. I never had anyone try to wipe me down after delivery and I had a section. I took care of that myself.
I shaved because I do that anyway, but trying to freak women out about catheterization impacted by pubic hair when they've clearly given birth and had no trouble before is more than a little absurd.
Oh and my husband is a nurse. He's done L&D. He didn't berate me with any stories of ungodly lochia stuck in pubes and holding up other patients care before my delivery thank god. But he's not lazy or an *** so... maybe that's it.
No one said anyone's bladders exploded or that the woman was paralyzed. She had a hip replacement and couldn't get up to go to the bathroom.
And no one is talking about only pregnant women being catheterized... in fact I know very few that are. In general, your refusal to trim down is nasty. Do you also refuse to shave your legs and underarms?

You must smell NICE!
Ah! Your brilliant reading comprehension skills strike again! I assume your last statement was directed at me - the admitted anti-trimmer. Lanie (whom you quoted) clearly stated she trims. But I suppose you were just too busy being trying to be clever to keep things straight ;-)
I'd also LOL at the fact you resurrected this thread which died yesterday...which begs the question of why I'm bothering to reply...but...
As I've said twice now, I don't think any women should feel she has to trim or shave simply to appease her health care provider. If it floats your boat to do so, go for it. But I think it's silly for women to worry over something as insignificant as the state of their pubic hair as they go into labor. So the "OMG it's so nasty if you don't" horror stories are ridiculous. This question gets asked a lot for some reason - and the only relevant answer is do what makes you happy.
I'm not sure what you have against un-trimmed pubic hair - who should concern themselves with the state of my "bush" aside from DH and I - and for the record he finds the bald look unattractive and agrees that trimming is unnecessary. I shave my legs and pits because I prefer them that way; I leave the rest "natural" because I prefer it that way - pretty simple.
Oh, and there's this fabulous thing called washing - when you do it regularly, you don't stink regardless of the amount of hair you are sporting - crazycakes!
I'm with ncbelle on this one. I've already had two children and never shaved or trimmed for either and honestly it was the last thing on my mind. DH likes me that way and that's all that matters. I was able to keep clean and didn't have any problems resulting from my bush.
If a nurse as grossed out because of my hair, that's her problem not mine. If after seeing me pee, poop, vomit and bleed all over the place the worst thing she was thinking was that my bush was nasty, I'm fine with that too.
People really need to grow up and get over it. It's hair for crying out loud.
ETA - Did people who have had babies already really have the nurse clean them up that thoroughly? My nurses never cleaned lochia from my pubic hair. They gave me a wipe after everything was done and then I took care of cleaning myself when I took a shower an hour after the birth. Maybe it's because I didn't tear so there weren't stitches and I did it med-free so I was ready to get up and move shortly after birth, but I never required a nurse to clean me up.
