2nd Trimester

Amnio today the good and the not so good

I had my procedure this morning with a great doctor and awesome techs. I thought I would get a numbing shot but nope (DH said this was probably because I told them I have a high pain threshold, which I do). It hurt, well, like a deep shot with some very mild pressure when the needle was inserted and the a bit of mild cramping when the moved the needle around because the wee one was moving so much. The extracted the fluid and the took out the needle. When the needle was removed it felt like more mild pressure/cramping and it was over. It was fast and easy. I didn't look at the monitor since I didn't want to see the needle in my body on screen but DH said it was all cool.

After my detailed  ultrasound I found out brain and nuchulal (sp?) fold measured normal as did size and heartrate. However, before I could leave the tech brought the doctor back in and in the pictures there was an issue she wants to re-visit. Eiether the little one was in a strange position OR there is an abnormality in the base of the spine. I'm just freaking out a little now. She did say that the brain appeared normal which was a good sign and we may get some additional info on the amnio results. But, again, I'm a little nervous and kind of freaking out.

I go back in 4 weeks for another detailed ultrasound but I wish it were sooner.

Please send good thoughts and prayers our wee one's way.
