Crib Reviews?

DH and I want to start looking for cribs. I'm a firm believer in solid products and want to research safety ratings. Plus we want the crib to hold up for baby #2 someday (hopefully).

Have you found any good crib review sources?

Re: Crib Reviews?

  • my DH and I are research freakshows.  We subscribe to consumer reports and there were two reccommended cribs that they thought were a best bet: DaVinci Emily 4791 (which we chose) and Ikea Leksvik 601.086.63.  We went to Ikea to check out the Leksvik and it seemed sturdy and well made but when we read reviews on other sites about the Emily crib we were more inclined to buy it.  Everyone was marvelling at the quality of the crib for the price.  it also converts to a toddler bed and then into a full bed (if you purchase the additional rails)  We got it a few weeks ago and I couldn't be more pleased.  I've been looking at every store in town from the $150 price range all the way up to the $900 price range and I couldn't be happier with our purchase thus far.  :)

  • I'd really recommend buying a Baby Bargains book (available just about everywhere). They review all types of baby products, including cribs, indepth. The book cost under $20.

  • We went with the Graco Lauren. It was a cheaper crib, but recommended by baby bargains for people on a budget....like us!

  • We had a hard time deciding too, as we wanted a good SOLID wood crib (most of them out there are made of softer woods, where they scratch or dent extremely easily).  We did the fingernail test (scratch the rail) on a number of model beds and finally decided to get the JCPenney Olivia crib in espresso (link below).

We are happy and it is definitely solid (and affordable).  We used Consumer Reports and Baby Bargains...but they didn't get us where we wanted to get.

    Good luck!

  • Out of all the ones we have looked at in the stores, we are going with a Stanley set from the young america collection.  Awesome, solid wood furniture, and now nothing else compares.  They are pricey, but totally worth it if you want it to hold up.  We have only seen them at a couple of stores however, and Babies R Us is not one of them.  Good luck!
