3rd Trimester

PSA: Raspberry Leaf Tea

I was just reading some of the "how can I induce labor" posts and I thought about this.  Raspberry leaf tea is not proven to "induce" labor, but it does help to shrink your uterus faster after Baby is born.

It's not bad tasting, I actually kind of liked it when I drank it after DS1, so you might want to try drinking it then.  This also helps your uterus heal quicker, which can mean less PP-bleeding!

  • I drink 1/2 a gallon a day, ugh... but I really think it helped my labor with DD go fast and easy, definitely doesn't induce labor though- 10 days overdue with her :)

Yes.  It can help tone your uterus and increase the quality of contractions and make them more productive, but it does not create contractions or induce your body to do anything.  I've been drinking it since third trimester.

This is exactly right!  I wasn't allowed to drink it in this pregnancy or my pregnancy with my first son because I had a lot of PTL scares in both.

  • I had no idea women thought it did! My midwife said that it will help tone my uterus, and well, I'm willing to try it! I'm also sick of drinking water and juice:)

  • It also helps increase your milk supply. I had supply issues with my daughter and my doc told me to drink the RLT and take Fenugreek, it did help!
  • It makes me sick to my stomach.

I had a whole inducing labor conversation with my doctor the other day, and he told me that it's all old wive tales -- including walking -- except for sex and cervadil.

And he said whatever you do, don't do castor oil. It just gives you diarrhea.

  • Where might one find rasberry leaf tea?  And is rasberry tea the same thing?  I have some of that in the pantry and it sounds pretty good right now considering it's chilly and raining.

They sell it at our local grocery store, and it's not the same thing as raspberry tea.  I think the brand we have here is Traditional Medicinal or something like that.
