Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How old is too old for rompers?

MIL just sent DD 3 rompers. My first thought was; aren't rompers too babyish for toddlers?  They are actually really cute in modern prints (from Tea Collection). What do you think - at what age are rompers too cutesy?

  • I think a lot of people put toddlers in rompers, but they are NMS. Especially now that DD is walking, I prefer her in separates. They sound cute though.

  • I had two of them that DS wore over the summer. I only put them on him if we were not going somewhere b/c I think he is too old for them. (he just turned 2 two weeks ago). I think up to about 18 months is OK.
  • I have a Gymboree romper as his "extra" clothes in the diaper bag, but it rarely gets used.  The one in my siggy pic is Ralph Lauren and it looks nice for church.

But for the most part, rompers are for the younger babies, IMO.

  • For boys, 2 or so.

For girls, I'm guessing 4 and under is ok? I remember wearing them as a small child.

  • I say 18 months.  We use them for pajamas if we get them now.

I pretty much agree with this

  • If they're cute (and Tea generally is), I think little girls look fine in them until they hit two. I don't like boys in them much past a year.
  • The kind that are shorts on the bottom (like in Elisa312's siggie above) I think are fine for a long time.  Maybe 3 on boys?  They are super popular in the south -- the kind with the smocking on the top.  I don't know if there's really a girl equivalent -- probably just dresses!

The bubble kind that are basically fancy onesies are different.  I think (for girls) the cut off is maybe 18 months to 2 years.  DD is tall and skinny and kind of looks older than she is.  I only rarely let her go out in these nowadays.  Most of the time she'll only wear them for playdates at someone's house or something like that.  And only if it's very obvious that it's meant to be an outfit and not a onesie -- like if it has ruffles on the butt or something.  For boys, I think the cut off is closer to a year.

I would say the same thing.

I think it actually kind of depends on the kid, too; I don't think they look as good on a 1-year-old who's long and lean and looks older as on one who's still a little more chubby.

They're pretty common here in SC. I have half a dozen one-piece outfits I've put on my boys this summer and I think they're very handy, but from this fall on I'll only use them as PJs if at all. (I still think overalls are adorable for a few more years though. ;))

  • I personally think they look too much like PJ's so I don't prefer them. But they are cute nonetheless! I'd say  probably around 2-3? But honestly it all depends on the romper too...

  • IDK, I stopped putting him in those a while ago.  He had a few over the summer, but he stopped wearing them around 7-8 months.  I try not to put him in anything with snaps anymore... too much of a wrestling match.

  • I think around age 2 is appropriate. DD has one in her clothing rotation right now and it's adorable.
