New girl... anyone reading any pregnancy books?

Hi everyone!  I stumbled upon this website last week and finally decided to join.  I am 8 weeks pregnant with our first and so excited!!  I have a question about pregnancy books.  I have heard that Babywise and What to Expect When you are Expecting are good.  Do any of you have any opinions on these or any recomendations?  Thanks!

Re: New girl... anyone reading any pregnancy books?

  • I really enjoyed What to expect when expecting

  • I agree "What to expect" --- reading it now and really like it (my first too). I also just ordered "The Belly Book: A Nine-Month Journal for You and Your Growing Belly" to journal the experience. Read some post's on here discussing it!

I want to get the Belly Book too this time around.

  • I really enjoyed "What To Expect" and also "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy is absolutely hilarious and SO true!

  • "Panic-Free Pregnancy" was great.

  • I had my little girl in may and highly recommend what to expect when your expecting! it was kinda like my baby bible that you can just flip through. def. a good read! good luck!!!! your in for an amazing adventure!
  • I'd recommend reading The Baby Whisperer along w/ Babywise. (I was all gung ho to be a Babywise mom w/ my first, but when I got him home--I learned Baby Whisperer was more my style. It was good to have read both.)

  • i must be the only one who would not recomment "what to expect" but i am not a fan..  it is a lot of information.

    i say belly laughs.

  • I would say avoid WTEWYE...it should be called "What to worry about when you're expecting". Pregnancy Week by Week was much more even-keeled.

Belly Laughs didn't make me laugh once, and it is definitely "my kind" of humor. I thought it was just awful.

A funnier (maybe a bit out of date and a tad alarmist mixed with a tad blase) would be Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy.

  • After spending several hours at the bookstore I bought Pregnancy Day by Day and I love it.
  • I'm not a fan of "What to Expect..." So, I started reading "The Working Woman's Pregnancy Book". So far, it's been really good.
Three angel babies...I think it's time for a change

This is what I've heard about WTWYE... which is why I'm not buying it.. I'm already paranoid enough!  I have Pregnancy Week by Week, and I think it's pretty good, though I don't have any other books to compare it to yet.
