I have an ergo with the infant heart to heart insert (which we love) but it has been really hot here in LA and a moby. I was thinking about getting a Balboa sling since it is on sale for $35 at a local store. It is also a final sale, so I just wanted to get your opinions before I purchase it. Do you like it and more importantly would you recommend it?
Thanks in advance!
Re: balboa sling...wdyt?
I probably would not get it.
First, because your LO is 2 months already and that's about the time that I stopped using the sling. I guess around 2-3 months is when I stopped.
Second, if your LO is 2 months, can you stop using the infant insert in the Ergo? My friend used the Ergo sans insert and Moby for her 3-mo-old during our very hot summer...
Third, because slings use just one shoulder, I find them uncomfortable when the baby gets older than 2-3 months. I see that you can use them for hip carry, but.. I tried that and it wasn't secure or comfortable.
Fourth, $35 for a sling is not a good deal. I'd rather pay $10-20 for a sling at a consignment store or off CL. Or, email me and I'll send you a promo code to get a free sling (pay shipping) from the Udder Covers people. mrulon at yahoo.
Fifth, if you want a carrier that is light because it's hot, I would look at the Baby Hawk... Search Craigslist for them used. Or DiaperSwappes.com.

thanks Malia! All very good points.
I should add that I have a gift card to the store, but I was worried that it may not be very comfortable with an almost 3 month old and not get a lot of use out of it. Thanks again!
I think so. I've tried the ergo w/o he insert when he was younger and I wasn't comfortable with it. The insert keeps them upright and secure and i usually wear it where his body is facing towards the sides (instead of me) and he loves to be able to look around. I tried it with a small blanket for the first time yesterday and it was a little better but I think he's still too small and the ergo is too wide to wear it straddled.
