s/o to Big boy/girl bed

DD is going to be moved probably when she is close to 3, so I have plenty of time. But, I wanted to start thinking about what her new room would be like. What kind of furniture/wood do you have for your big kid rooms?

DS was moved when he was exactly 2, and his room has dark stained (think walnut) furniture, and something that can really last him until he moves out. When I look for girl's furniture, it all seems to be painted white. I don't think I want white furniture for my teenaged girl. Does painted white furniture in a room = little girl to you?

We plan to have white furniture for the girls...twin beds/two tall chest-type dressers.  I think it's fine.  

FWIW, I had white furniture - my grandma bought a huge set at an estate sale when I was 2-3....bed, 2 dressers, vanity, desk, 2 nightstands.  It's still at my brother's house - I wish I had the talent/time to refinish it (white with gold design into the drawer fronts and white/gold hardware. I'd love to strip it and use it.
